david strachan Posted December 11, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2018 Is it OK as cattle feed, Dee? All best...
platypus Posted December 11, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted December 11, 2018 Greetings Dave, From personal observation I would say that cattle do well with a mixed menu of phalaris, native grasses, clover etc., However I believe that a diet restricted to phalaris grass alone is not recommended for cattle, it tends to have an adverse effect which manifests as a terrible tummy ache, bloating, staggering and possibly death unless assistance is rendered immediately. It's quite a photogenic grass species though! Dee
david strachan Posted December 11, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2018 (edited) Yes, i've always liked the look of phalaris...grown without encouragement in some of my gardens.. Staggers if they just eat Phalaris...sounds like you've got your feed management...as expected. Hope you have some summer rains. Good luck to you... Edited December 11, 2018 by david strachan Hope for rain

M10/APO50 Strange days for climate worldwide. You've had 18 months of drought and we just went through one of the wettest summer/fall periods ever. We had sandbags around our house because the nearby river and lake were close to overflowing. I keep wondering what young children will be facing in coming decades.

Judging by the "changes" that we are seeing in this country I think that if I owned property on the edge of a large body of water, whether salt or or fresh, I would seriously consider a move to higher ground. But then again.....we live on just about the highest ground available on this flat continent and we spend each and every summer in fear of bushfires which continue to increase in frequency and severity with each passing fire season.
