Snapped yesterday when walking near our house. In Portugal, the arbutus is called "medronheira" and the fruit "medronho", but here, this last word rather evokes a very strong alcohol made with the fruit. When I looked for translation in English in the Cassel's, I discovered that the arbutus was mainly ornamental...on one side of the Channel at least. Question of culture, probably, and possibly another explanation for the Brexit…

Lovely Pecole.

We had one of those trees, known as Irish Strawberry Tree in Australia.  The fruit is floury and pretty flavourless.

Beaut picture...nice colours and included flowers.

Thanks, Dave. One of the reasons I took the picture was precisely that it included the flowers. Flavourless, the fruit, I agree : but have you also in Australia the very strong alcohol derived from it, that we call here in Portugal "medronho"? It is full of flavour, I can guarantee! To your good health (even if the "medronho" does nor really help...).
