Calvito Posted November 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I found that some awesome person created files to 3D print hotshoe covers. Like myself, he kept on forgetting what film was in the camera. These covers have the asa value on to of them as a reminder. Great idea! Check out this page to see what I mean. I found some guys nextdoor to where I live prepared to do the printing. My idea is to have nine batches done so that each ASA-value has its own colour. So I am looking for eight other people to share the costs with. They charge a very fair price, I believe (although I have not compared prices): 13,15 euro, excluding tax (21%). So who would like to participate? In Holland and preferably in Amsterdam as I do not want to go through the hassle of sending the batches off by mail. Maybe we could meet up as a group together in Amsterdam, distribute the covers and combine it with doing some shooting together? Who's in?
Advertisement Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Hi Calvito, Take a look here Let's get these hotshoe covers together! (in the Netherlands). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spydrxx Posted November 3, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2018 I used to make similar covers out of black scrap plastic which I engraved with film type & ISO, some I then painted in silver. These days I only use one film so they ended up in the trashbin. But the concept is good for those who don't have other means to remind oneself of what film is in the camera. I think most people could find an inch of masking tape and a pen.
Calvito Posted November 3, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted November 3, 2018 Thanks for the reactions guys. But I am interested in people who do want to go along with this. I am sure everyone will take your advice to heart however...
hilm3 Posted November 3, 2018 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2018 I saw these covers and loved the idea, so I downloaded the files and printed a set. I can confirm that they fit perfectly and they are just what I was looking for. If you want to use tape and pen or any other method, no one will stop you. This is an elegant solution. I am not in Europe, so can't help with your proposal. Good luck! It took minutes to 3D print and a dollar or so in materials.
Calvito Posted November 3, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted November 3, 2018 Thanks a lot for your reaction hilm3. I do indeed believe this is an elegant solution. Glad to hear they work for you 🙂
Keith (M) Posted November 3, 2018 Share #7 Posted November 3, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but what is wrong with using the flap from the film box in the hotshoe? Not only an ISO reminder but film type as well... Edited November 3, 2018 by Keith (M)
Calvito Posted November 3, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted November 3, 2018 Thanks for your reply Keith but I was looking for something a bit more 'elegant' as hilm3 aptly called it. I am, however, open to suggestions of other codings for different film types. Someone made just two batches of the whole asa-rage. One for colour and the other for B/W. If the response to this thread is low, I might just do that for myself instead.
david strachan Posted November 3, 2018 Share #9 Posted November 3, 2018 A piece of the box, cut with scissors, or a label, sticky-taped to the camera base plate works for me. Leaves the hot shoe available...and might serve as a reminder to those who have opened the camera before rewinding...😜 ...
pico Posted November 3, 2018 Share #10 Posted November 3, 2018 (edited) The simple act of attaching a box-end reminds me of the film. It's like class notes - once written, not forgotten. Edited November 3, 2018 by pico
250swb Posted November 4, 2018 Share #11 Posted November 4, 2018 If you need a reminder the ISO is a good place to start, but I'd like to know whether it is colour or B&W film as well. I wasn't being facetious in suggesting some tape and a pen, lots of things can be noted on it such as ideas for processing when the roll has ended, or subject matter, or if you're been pushing 400 ISO to 1600 ISO.
Calvito Posted November 5, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted November 5, 2018 Thanks for your responses guys. But I'm still looking for people in the Netherlands that do want to go ahead with this idea...
Calvito Posted December 30, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted December 30, 2018 Thanks for all the replies and ideas. Despite all the reactions, I had them printed and I'm happy with them. One set in grey for b/w. And another in a dark shade of green for the colour. When I push a 400 film 3 stops, I pop on the 3200 cover. Bye for now...
