Paulus Posted October 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only disaster is, when you loose your photos being on an assignment. Please tell your disasters so that we can learn and understand how much happend: Did you lose all your pictures once, due to your.own fault or sd-card failure or writing failure of the camera? Personally, I never did. Lost single shots , 1 every 1000-2000, but never lost the whole card volume. I like to know because Leica M only has one slot, and a lot of cameras have two, maybe because they want to prevent this from happening. But does it really happen a lot? TomB_tx Posted October 19, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2018 The only such loss I’ve had was when I forgot to put the SD card back in the camera before a hike.
Astropap Posted October 19, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2018 Well, it didn't matter because I was just trying out the camera but I left lens cap on. I couldn't figure out why I was only seeing black when trying to scroll through the shots I had taken. 🤔

TRIVIA: An early version of the M9 firmware allowed us to capture images to the buffer with no card, then insert the card to store them. new2leica Posted October 19, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2018 I carry backup card(s), 1 or 2 extra batteries, and a spare travel charger. Don't abuse the buffer. If the red light is blinking I don't take a picture or turn the camera off. Following these simple rules I've never had a problem, on any digital camera Leica or other. adan Posted October 20, 2018 Share #6 Posted October 20, 2018 Very early in my M9 period (12/2009) I had an experience where, with substantial "deleting" of dud images to clear card space on a long sea trip (no way to buy more cards), I got 5-6 "keepers" that were sliced and diced with other pictures on the same card. A strip of green channel from image "A" inserted into image "B" and so on. Which is why I now am parsimonious in using the "Delete" function in-camera, and never "Delete All" - easy enough to delete duds in the computer afterwards, and Format the card for re-use. But I've never lost an entire card as such.
250swb Posted October 20, 2018 Share #7 Posted October 20, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) As I get older I regularly meet with disaster by not getting out the front door in time to catch the best light, my SD card never had a chance to fail. I have lost rolls of film however, and one time three double dark slides which baffles me as the sudden weight loss should have been a clue they'd gone AWOL.
mr_big Posted October 20, 2018 Share #8 Posted October 20, 2018 I lost all pictures of Yankee Stadium on my trip to NY due to a corrupted SD card. Leica, PLEASE build an M with TWO SD card slots.

LocalHero1953 Posted October 21, 2018 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2018 (edited) I've lost a number of film rolls to accidents (opening the camera before rewinding, overheating in the sun, scratches from damaged cassette, treating colour as B&W, forgetting what ISO it was, incorrectly reloading a half used roll, developing blunders, and, in the early days with a box camera, double exposures). I have never lost a cardful of images. I have never had a dud SD card. I realise there's always a first time for both, but the digital era is far more reliable. Gobert Posted October 21, 2018 Share #15 Posted October 21, 2018 Since, I’m in the digital area, say for 10 years or so, I’ve never had a corrupted card.

I took a previously formatted SanDisk 8GB SDHC card to test the store's M10 demo body with my three M-mount lenses. Since the M10 had no problem with my old 8GB memory card, I purchased the M10 demo body. I also purchased three brand new SanDisk 32GB SDHC cards. However, I was unable to capture any images on the new cards. It was not until I formatted one of the new 32GB cards in the M10 that I was eventually able to capture one image on one card. I then tried a brand new Lexar 16 GB SDHC card that I also formatted in the M10 demo body. Thus far, the Lexar card seems to be working properly. Welcome, dear visitor!
