bags27 Posted October 17, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I shoot only dng, but set the jpeg to monochrome because it makes the EVF black and white and easier to see the subject and peaking. Still, sometimes I'd rather see in color. Today, I discovered (did everyone else already know this?) that if you push in the middle button on the joy stick it turns the EVF picture to color; it toggles B&W and color. Neat. Advertisement Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Hi bags27, Take a look here is this another undocumented "plus" to the Q?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SonbomaBear Posted October 17, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2018 Wonderful! I often shoot with saturation reduced to zero (Monochrome) while recording in DNG. So true, my compositions are generally better and my manual focus more accurate with monochrome and focus peaking. But I wondered how to toggle this on/off since I often use exp. comp. based upon color rendition. Now I can toggle it... Tank you Bags27 gotta run to my Q and try this one.... 1

You are a certified genius. Yet another hidden feature of the Q that’s really useful. I suppose by the time I’ve had the Q for 10 years, all the features will reveal themselves. Thanks my friend.

Leica Guy Posted October 18, 2018 Share #6 Posted October 18, 2018 I tried Ken’s suggestion, but I may be missing something. When I toggle the display using the center button, on both the EVF and rear LCD, I see the normal 4 different display modes. Three are monochrome and the video one is color. Definitely useful, but different than I expected. What am I missing? Thanks all.
bags27 Posted October 18, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted October 18, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hmmm...maybe that's what there is, Dan. I didn't have time to try it out extensively, as I was putting my camera away and going to work. I bet you're right; it's only going into video. As you say, still helpful but not the same thing. And dangerous, too, since you shouldn't try to take a photo in that mode. sorry, everyone! 1

And dangerous, too, since you shouldn't try to take a photo in that mode. sorry, everyone! This happened to me several times. This is about the only thing I absolutely hate about the camera. I wish Leica would fix it and couple the display for video to the record button. Press ones and the correct display appears. Press again and start recording. The center button always (with every camera I can think of ) is used for conformation of settings.
stuny Posted October 18, 2018 Share #9 Posted October 18, 2018 Ken - Putting your cameras away and going to work? I encourage you to carry at least one of them with you to work, especially since Providence and RI as a whole are so lovely.

Nearly every day, I drive on Water Street on the way home, and think: what a fantastic opportunity, with the sun now setting over the River.... Ok: I will!

I have been using that function for quite a while now usually when I am not sure if I want to go B&W or colour. I thought it was common knowledge. LexS Posted November 10, 2018 Share #12 Posted November 10, 2018 I just ordered a Q, is there someone who has a list of the undocumented features?
