I’m also finding the forum very slow even on my latest iPad Pro and a dualchannel fibre connection. Searches often don’t ever complete or they hang and often I get error messages re “problems loading content”.

I don’t seem to be able to get some of the activity options to display - selecting “content I posted in” for example causes an endlessly spinning progress indicator.....

I’m sure things will gradually improve  - and I’m looking forward to the wiki links being restored at some point as I often used that (valuable) resource.

Unfortunately, I do agree with you. Impossible to visit and browse on me IPhone; extremely slow and discouraging to use the site on my IPad; only on the computer it is a little better!...

😫

PS: I should also add that posting shots has become much more difficult. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't! Often, I have to go through different steps to post a shot and I am never sure if I succeeded unless I check out and re-log!...

I bet I struggle to complete the sentence before it crashes.... What does the forum management have to say on the matter? I'm not alone it seems, whatever has altered has made the experience dreadful for iPad browsing - totally different I might add when surfing RFF for example: snappy, no hang ups, no lost connection, no page reloading mid sentence, etc etc. I do hope it improves.

Well, it looks like I lost the bet, it didn't crash mid sentence. I'm blessed!

i do not enjoy surfing this forum as much as before

i do not think i have posted an image since the forum has been updated-- to much 'friction' -- not worth it IMHO

I haven't had any problems posting pictures from the Mac — I don't access the forum from a tablet or a smart phone. Also, I haven't seen any slowdown in accessing the forum itself — slowdowns seem to stem from activity-routine selections such as Content I Posted In, as the forum works through the data base, which should be faster.

The new forum is an example of "the best being the enemy of the good". Compared to the old forum, and to other BBS systems like Wordpress, there is great flexibility in creating selections, but it takes a lot of time and trial and error to get some of the basic thing one wants, such as accessing only the English-language forums and seeing the types postings one wants. In addition to a "quick guide" on how to use the forum, there should be standard routines, with easy customisation, that one can select to get the basic things any forum provides. That is lacking, and I suspect, forum use has declined because it's all to difficult and cumbersome — a PITA. For example, I haven't been able to get view-counts to show in any of the activity routines I've set up.

Posting still works consistently for me.  But unfortunately since October 11, the "new" site also consistently compresses my images by about 60% on average, more than enough to negate the 1000kb perk.

I have never used routines or filters to view the Forum. Not before nor now.

I just access the whole thing from the front page

I’m also not sure what knowing the number of views really brings to the party, to be honest but they are still shown when not using filters or summary listings b

I have said that I will look into that for you at the weekend.

I think that the new software is a vast improvement on the iPhone and the iPad gives me basically the same experience as on my Mac or PC.

I think that there’s some sort of bug in the photo posting function and I have been discussing this with Andreas.

I‘m writing this on a 5 years old iPad thus this can‘t be the core problem. And yes, full advertisements for the admin too.😳

I still need some time to figure out this nasty upload bug and other problems you describe. Sorry for the delay but we are (right now I am) working here with a small team ...

And yet, people are prepared to pay small fortunes for their cameras and get the forum for free. You couldn't buy a lens cap for the cost of a year's membership here!

Tight wads springs to mind!

Is it not the case that this Leica ‘specific’ forum (apart from the “I like Film” thread) is, in part, designed to attract potential customers to the Leica brand. It could be considered, therefore, that ‘self promotion’ (and the fact it is “free”) is a loss leader to Leica.

This is not Leica's forum. It is a private forum that belongs to Andreas and has been for over 12 years.

Leica do not support the Forum and haven't done so since that time. Financial support comes from the advertising, sponsoring members and the Classified section fees. The majority of people who use the forum, do so for free.

No, that is not the case.

As per Andy's explanation.

Does Andreas have any connection with Leica? I thought he was COO, or close to the top.

I have to correct Andy a little bit:

I was paid by Leica for running the forum until 2006 as far as I can recall.

After that there was a period without any business (the Steven K Lee years...)

For some years now we are doing business again with Leica Wetzlar, for example by organizing the firmware tests and reporting user complaints.

We have a close and trustful cooperation but without any obligations how to run the forum.

No, thank god, no.
