Very interesting, Paul, the way you push the intrigue of substance beyond composition, playing the common denominator of bicycle as an adroit liberation from urban claustrophia.

Prosperity and oppression.

The upper photo is of Wimpole Hall, Cambridge, owned by the National Trust, but built with money substantially derived from the slave trade.
The lower picture (a Wikipedia Commons image) is of La Porte de Non-Retour, Ouidah, Benin, a memorial to the enslaved at this former hub for the slave trade.
There are two coincidences: extending the compass bearing of the Wimpole carriage drive will take you almost exactly to Ouidah; and the shape and colour of the Wimpole facade is extraordinarily similar to the memorial.

Again, a very coincidental pairing and use of perspective.

This is certainly one of my favorites, the allusion to movement and music in concert, the play of hands and the suggestion of the violin bow also in movement. See Ralph Gibson's Overtones: Diptychs and Proportions for a take on his relationship of guitar music and images playing to one another.

Thank you, Ernest. I am very much learning my ABC with diptychs (while you are writing literature!): trying things to see what works and what doesn't - and what creates greater intrigue, or encouragement to contemplation. I'm already discontented with the first two, and soon expect to be discontented with the last. But posting them online makes me draw a line under each trial, and move on to the next.

Really must brush up on my PS & LR skills - it was a struggle to find a way of creating this diptych.
