JamesBarry Posted September 29, 2018 Share #1 Â Posted September 29, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) For purely image quality/rendering, I seek advice from those who own or have experience of both please.... I would be funding either combination from the sale of my M9 / 50 lux M. Â Â The CL/35 combo would be a back-up to my SL 24-90 but the most important decision criteria is image quality of portrait shots. Â Maybe the SL 50 is just too good to pass-by? Â Thanks in advance! Advertisement Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Hi JamesBarry, Take a look here Portraiture - SL with 50 lux or CL with TL35?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 29, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted September 29, 2018 Either. Both lenses will give great results.

To be honest, with these two, the difference is in me, not the cameras.
ramarren Posted September 29, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted September 29, 2018 For portraits, I'd use the CL with the Summilux 50mm ...
Mr.Q Posted September 30, 2018 Share #5 Â Posted September 30, 2018 The SL + SL50 has a medium format look to the files.Yes, it's too good to pass by for dedicated portraits.
Marac Posted September 30, 2018 Share #6 Â Posted September 30, 2018 I have the 35 and also just recently acquired the SL 50, I use both on the CL (the only camera I own now) both are wonderful, the 50 especially as I am more used to an 80mm FOV for portraits. Â It is a large lump but if you treat it as a lens with a camera attached instead of the other way around, it works.
ramarren Posted September 30, 2018 Share #7 Â Posted September 30, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) "... a lens with a camera attached ..." Â Exactly how I treat most SLRs and the CL with Leica R lenses, my usual configuration. The CL fitted with Summilux-R 50mm is superb for making portraits, every bit as beautiful rendering as the SL with Summicron-R 90mm ...!

Unfortunately it is one or the other for me... the CL/TL35 would be advantageous as a replacement back-up to the SL now that the M9 combo is sold but the SL 50 on it's own is tempting; maybe a now or never purchase...
ramarren Posted September 30, 2018 Share #9 Â Posted September 30, 2018 I'm old ... but there's still no such thing as "now or never" yet. It's always "now or future" for me.

In this scenario i would most certainly advise you to go for the SL 50 Summilux. That way you can always pick up a CL later and use the 50mm on the CL as an alternative. Either way, I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you decide.

FlashGordonPhotography Posted September 30, 2018 Share #12  Posted September 30, 2018 The 35 on the CL behaves somewhat like a 52mm 2.1 would on the larger sensor (the 50lux is a bit wider, an actual 50). Like the SL50 Summicron will on the SL. I like f2 with a 50, so that'd be fine for me.  However, the 50 lux is an ever so slightly better lens than the 35TL. Very occasionally I can make the 35TL show a little bit of fringing or CA. I can't get the SL50 to misbehave in any way. So it's the 50SL for me, even though it's a bit of a beast. Then start a new program to acquire the CL body.  Maybe you can find a mint used one.  Gordon
