Apple made a nice change to their iPhone software.  In addition to many other things, the iPhone can now deal with DNG images.

So.....

Take photo with M8.

Remove memory card

Insert memory card into Apple's "SD card to Lightning connector"  ($30, yesterday, at Apple Store)

Plug adapter into "lightning port" at bottom of phone.

If you have updated your phone to the new iOS 12, the photos from the M8 will appear, and you can select a photo(s) for import.

Pretty cool - no more need to get back to your computer and process the photos.
