Well Guy, you are VERY right!

But the reason a lot of folks are trying to sell their DMR is because there

1) IS NO SUPPORT

2) since there is no support and Leica has to go their own way it is forseeable what will happen to DMR prices once there is the new R10 (hopefully)

So it is only natural that some people try to sell in tinme. Especially if they have alternative solutions.

And - did you not already sell your 2 DMRs ?

Yes i did , i could not keep up with 2 40 k systems . Just was too much so i had to make a choice and went with the M8 because of all the reason why others like the M8 lenses, weight, compact and so on. Not a very happy decision to sell the DMR, i loved it and still do but i could only pass the money around so much. At the time if the M8 was not having the issues it did , I may have stayed 1 and 1 but i knew i needed a m8 backup and i was right, I did.

And you are right Peter there is no firmware support if it is not already out and in your systems. They will continue to service them.

Now if i was a DMR owner i would seriously think about selling those R lenses and if that truly is a wise choice but instead save them :D

If I may interject here, in light the initial post about DMRs for sale, allow me to note that something like four hours ago a DMR was listed on eBay with a buy it now price of just under $4000 (plus $90 shipping in U.S.). The unit is said to be as new and come from a Leica sales rep.

I follow the DMR only casually, so others may be able to add more useful detail, but the price seemed lower than I remembered and does seem lower than the three units (one with an R9) offered here that occasioned the original posting in this thread.

I think of BIN as setting the upper limit on an eBay auction price (why would anyone bid more when a quick acceptance of the BIN price should (absent bad timing with another buyer) win the product immediately?). The seller here also has high postive feedback (over +4000) and a 99.4% positive rating and the DMR is said to be in the lower 48 states (NW corner). The offer looks and feels real to me, but I have very limited experience with eBay.

Does anyone still seriously believe there will be another firmwware update?

We don't know of course what Leica's ability to fix the DMR is since they didn't make them but with Imacon otherwise engaged, it will be a headache.

My guess is that Leica will offer an some sort of DMR trade-in for an R10 to take them out of circulation - a bit like the Digilux 2 to 3 upgade. What isn't being used doesn't need to be supported.

Craig a low buy it now price can indicate several things, it could be that the person bought it at an even better price, it could be that they need the money so want to guarantee a sales, or it could mean that they don't really know what the item is worth <grin>

Mark,

Do you really need the firmware upgrade? I'm still using 1.1 with LR1.1 and am perfectly happy. The dynamic range of the DMR is astonishing and the long R glass, like the 180 cron and 280/4 APO, is stunning. I've also not heard many reports about back-focussing

I am keeping my DMR until the R10 comes out.

Same here. The DMR was a good move for Leica at the time, it was Hasselblad getting in to the mix that killed its production. If the R10's viewfinder is as good as the SL's and the image quality is as good as the DMR's or better I'll be in line to buy one.

Some used R lens prices now are much higher than they were before the DMR... for example I bought my 280 f/4 APO for US$1600 about 6 months before the DMR was released for sale, and as the DMR's release came closer its price rose to $2200 or so. Now, good luck finding one for under US$3000.

Commnets on those three DMR on e-bay:

I have seen the one that came from the Leica Rep. in the NW and it is in great condition but the current seller has many adverse ratings on e-bay.

The other DMR back is listed from a recently registered seller. If I am correct this setup already been on e-bay, first located in Italy then in London and now in Florida!?

The third seller is OK but with the price on this item going down the "Buy It" price is too high, hope he will get a decent price for it.

I still think my DMR produces an excellent image and last week I was able to download the latest version of Flexcolor software (4.7) by registering my serial number on the Hassleblad site. So there is still some support and it still is a great camera. I really prefer it to my canon 5D in most circumstances except fast moving subjects or low light. I don't plan to sell it any time soon.

I was refering to Craigs comment.

I just discovered film again and ordered 10 rolls of Provia 400X but I am out to hitch up with the DMR at the right price without waiting for the upgrade if it will ever come.

What more one need and want then the current DMR can produce image wise.

Doug (the birdmen) is a perfect example the quality that can be achieved with the DMR.

I am keeping my DMR and have told a dealer to put me first on the list for the R10. Also, I am NOT selling any R lenses, rather I keep scouting for any interesting deals!

The only thing that concerns me is the possibility of Leica introducing an AF system or focus confirmation with the introduction of the R10 and having to update existing lenses, although I am pretty certain that existing lenses will work fine. I would expect also that they would introduce a new R lens similar in spirit to the 28/2.8 M that was released with the M8 - something at a low price point like that to entice new R users.

Rather than speculate too much, I will just be patient and continue to enjoy the DMR (as long as I can resist the M8 temptation!).

One of the reasons I bought the R9 was for the possibilty of the DMR purchase down the road.

But because it's cost, I simply couldn't justify it, as my slide film is so readly available.

To me as I have stated several times on this forum, the DMR was and still is a

Brilliant inovation, and if the price was right I would buy one.

As I was talking to my good friend about the R10 last week, he rely praised it.

I....Yes full frame.

2...Compatable with all R lenses.

3... New line of Auto Focus lenses... with a NEW SYSTEM OF AUTO FOCUS DRIVE.

4...Not cheap.

5...Other excellent inovations.

6...Release.... some time NEXT YEAR...2008

This could be News that Leica is leaking to hold on to serious R users,

But I did make a comment to a Leica Rep in Melbourne, that Leica should come out and state their intentions on the R10.

So some members will be ready, and perhaps forward some input into it.

Ken.

Only thing I can add is leica is growing into the future. If you can hang on to the R glass than i think you should.

Several things came to the top of my head ...

1. If you don't use it (a lot) ... now it's the best time to sell.

2. The price of "original" R lenses will DROP ... again.

3. Don't blame Hasselblad ... it's the old Imacon folks in charge now. :)

and I see there are a bunch of m's for sale, what does this mean? there is probably a reason for each sale..not mass histeria

are you guys trying to tell me that if my dmr does not work leica won't support the repair,

or are you just going on about the firmware debacle?

I will keep my dmr after the r10 comes out..but what do I know..have fun with the 5d

I'm sure it is most capable..just not my cup of tea.

Leica will support any repair on the DMR . The firmware is the issue or I should say the latest one that was supposed to be released

I totally agree with Richard. Anyone who really knows anything about Leica plans will not say (or write) a word.....not even hint!

I well remember being at a Leica Forum meeting early last year, pre M8 launch, where one of the attendees even had a beta version M8 somewhere in his posession but he would not show it or even dare talk about it, other than to say it was a great camera! The Leica non-disclosure contract must be very, very strong. Either that or a threat of castration by broken Noctilux kept him quiet!!
