Is my EVF DOA?

Just got another SL and i cannot get the EVF to turn on by pressing the button next to the viewfinder. I looked through the menus but don’t see how I can turn it on. Am I missing something very basic?

Do any of the 3 modes activated by the button press (EVF only, LCD only, or auto eye detect) work?

Pressing the button cycles through the back screen which works, pressing again does nothing (the screen stays on), the 3rd press then turns off the screen but the EVF remains dark. My original SL cycles normally.

 

Also covering the sensor on the top of the viewfinder ring with my finger turns on the EVF and turns off the back screen on my original SL. Doing this on my new SL does nothing.

I’ve only briefly demoed the SL. In the setup menu, there is a live view setting as I recall. Does this have any relevant effect?

Irrespective of the menu settings (as far as I can tell), you should be able to toggle between the back screen only, the back screen and EVF dependent on whether the view finder is used, and the EVF only. Looks like there is a problem with your new SL.

Try cleaning the eye sensor window. If that doesn't help, return the camera for an exchange.

I spoke with my dealer. I am sending it back and they are sending a new one that they will test prior to shipping to me.
