M9reno Posted September 13, 2018 Share #21 Posted September 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Then I would advise you to use your knowledge about the need for CLA, the not-original vulcanite, etc. to negotiate with the seller, or simply buy it. It's a good opportunity.
Advertisement Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Hi M9reno, Take a look here Is this Leica I worth buying? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
alemartinezc Posted September 13, 2018 Author Share #22 Posted September 13, 2018 Ambro51: yes, I have 2 more Barnacks: my first one is my father´s IIIG with 5 cm Elmar 2,8f. The second one is a IIIA I bought at the same bidding place as the IA we are talking about. I have uploaded photos of both of them in previous topics (may be looking at my profile you could find´em). With the years passing, I bought a few LTM lenses (a 1938 9 cm Elmar, another 5 cm Elmar 2,8, 13,5 cm Hektor and a (probably) Thorium 5 cm Summicron. I also have a M3 with Summicron and a collapsible 9 cm Elmar. A bunch of accesories are also in my possesion. M9reno: I am really tempted.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 13, 2018 Share #23 Posted September 13, 2018 You have a IIIG and IIIA... this one completes fine a small collection on the evolution of the Barnacks… price is good… don't worry too much of originality… it's a very very old Leica, nice to have. alemartinezc Posted September 13, 2018 Author Share #24 Posted September 13, 2018 (edited) Luigi; As I said, temptation is big. And bigger as time goes by. By the way, the IIIA is new to me (a few months) and haven´t had the time to shoot it yet with real film. If I buy this one, I would like it fully operational. earleygallery Posted September 13, 2018 Share #25 Posted September 13, 2018 Knock a bit off the price and give it some TLC. If the lens is shot it could still make a nice ‘portrait’ lens and put a 25mm snapshot Skopar on the body for a great street camera!
M9reno Posted September 13, 2018 Share #26 Posted September 13, 2018 Indeed, Alejandro, your Lutz Ferrando IIIa and matching case are beautiful! Congratulations on those and I hope you get to use them soon. I am a fellow South American (Colombian), although living in the UK now for many years, and I was keen to find one of the cameras that introduced Leica to our continent. So when I saw a Lutz Ferrando I A a few years ago (sold in Italy on eBay), I snapped it up. In fact it is the very same Leica I A camera that P.P. Ghisetti showed in the following article: http://www.wetzlar-historica-italia.it/lutzferrando.html It is now getting its CLA with Malcolm Taylor. Te deseo lo mejor con tus cámaras antiguas, Alejandro.
alemartinezc Posted September 13, 2018 Author Share #27 Posted September 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) James, yes I have the same idea, but have no Skopar. Instead I have some Leitz 5 cm that could make the job in case the lens that comes with the camera is not ok. But not decided to purchase yet. Here in Argentina the financial situation doesn't help much. M9reno, have you got the Buenos Aires or the Rio de Janeiro version? I have only seen Brazilian examples on the Net. M9reno Posted September 13, 2018 Share #28 Posted September 13, 2018 It is the Buenos Aires version inscribed on the viewfinder. It’s the same serial number camera that you can see halfway down the page in the link in my previous post. Fotocamera Milano was the seller who then sold it to me.
