It's a gorgeous camera, I took one to Scotland and it done a fabulous job, personally I found that I wanted a bit more flexibility regarding longer focal lengths and so sold it for the CL. I wish I could afford to of had both.

Enjoy your trip, I'm sure you'll get some great shots of the Wife too.

My other personal camera is a hasselblad x1d with 90mm. So between them I have it sorted.

The Sony only for work.

Thanks

Careful. You may not get it back. :-)

We were in Estonia and Helsinki last summer. Beautiful places. Especially loved old town in Tallinn and the Temppeliaukio church in Helsinki.

I got mine yesterday!

First impressions are very good.

However, a quick snapshot shows that the lens hood cuts the corners of the frame. Not good!

That’s not normal. Is the hood screwed on all the way? It should turn to a stop and be perfectly aligned.

Are you using any filters? They have to be ultra-thin. Otherwise I have no issues. Some of the vignetting is corrected in DNG-processing.

Something wrong there ... do you have it screwed all the way on?

Yes. It is fitted correctly.

If it is fitted correctly do you have any filters on the lens? If so take it/them off and see if vignetting still. Eliminate all the variables one by one - start with no filter and no lens hood, add lens hood making sure it twists to a hard stop, add filter. The lens hood if properly fitted does NOT cause vignetting. If it still does with no filter return the Q.

Thanks. The problem appears only in RAW files, the jpgs do not exhibit the same defect. People say that this is because barrel distortion in the jpgs is corrected in-camera.

I am told that some RAW processors automatically eliminate the lens' inherent barrel distortion. Photo Ninja does not - and its Barrel Distortion Elimination tool does not either.

So I need a new RAW processor. But which one?

Here are the RAW and jpg files of a shot, straight of the camera, just resized for here.

N.B. This shot was taken without the lens hood.

It is obvious that the camera has corrected the barrel distortion.

Photoshop and Lightroom do the job. As you can see the corners are simply cut off in the process.
