James (earleygallery), I correct you - my _first_ message and post on the "Leica Camera Forum" is dated July 10, 2007 - 3 months after - my registration date. Furthermore, the posting (new thread) already received 1,000+ views. Read what Carsten (carstenw) has has to say...

May I remind you about your message dated June 29, 2007 (another thread). You asked, "...guys, how are you liking the new [l-camera-forum] site... where's the Leica icon gone..."

(see thread: .. /3260-post1.html)

I won't comment on your trivia about popmusic and lyrics...

Sorry, you mean 2006 - impressed that you have the time to read all my threads, thank you.

I'm not quite sure what your point is however.

Nah, the first Black Sabbath album or Led Zep 4 - when I was in my teens I thought they played the best music that there'd ever been. But my real regret was Hendrix dying, and all the music we lost. Totally diferent from the heavy metal stuff of course, and who knows, by now he could have become part of the mainstream.

For my sins I've ben listening to some Jethro Tull recently. Stand Up still really still, errrr, stands up as a good album. Guess there are only so many things you can do with bass, guitar and drums - and some keyboards.

I must listen to more recent stuff by modern bands though. Difficult to know where to start.

Last thing I had in the CD player was John Coltrane - live at the Village Vanguard - my how he could play! Another talent taken too young.

Try the first Nickelback album - Silver side up, I think it's called. Good, old fashioned, guitar-driven raw rock. Chad Croeger's vocals remind me of a young Joe Cocker at times.

Regards,

Bill

The number of views that a thread has does not reflect the quality of the posts within, as i am sure you will agree.

How are you getting on with your exhibition in Berlin?

I bought the latest album by Rufus' dad the other week. It's pretty good. Loudon too is very good live.

It is good, and is the soundtrack to a very funny movie called "Knocked Up". Don't know if this has been released in the UK yet, but if it has, you should see it. Somewhat juvenile and cheeky, but quite well-made. Both hilarious and touching.

Steve,

Some great bands around right now. Kaiser Chieifs, Fratellis, Artic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, or for something a little different Rufus Wainwright - saw him live recently, fantastic!

I'd second these recommendations, along with a couple of Scottish bands, Travis and Idlewild. And for anyone who likes moody synth-pop (aka Joy Division), the new Editors and the new Interpol are quite good.

..............I'm curious how other members of the Leica Forum react to the fact that many "Leica" domain names are registered (.com, .net, .org) and used internationally - I assume without Leica's approval.

I am also puzzled why Leica Camera AG and/or shareholder(s) haven't taken legal action (and pushed the media) for stopping the "diluting" of the Leica brand name.......................

.

:p

.......ha ha ha ha..........ha ha........:p:P

at least in Germany the label is protected. The use in public has to be granted by the owner.

Update: Part of the conflict resulting in the sacking of Leica Camera AG's CEO Mr Lee - was the conflict he started with Leica branded dealerships and Leica's flagship stores.

In fact, in Germany, the Leica-flagship store in Berlin did business with the domain name

http://www.LEICA-CAMERA-BERLIN.COM - this was granted to Mr Martin Meister, a Leica dealership in Germany since 1929. Also http://www.LEICAbeiMEISTER.com (Hamburg).

There are only 3 newly re-branded Leica-flagship stores in Toyko, Paris, Berlin - all three make gallery exhibitions of photography/art projects and installations. They are featured in Leica's house magazine (Hamburg) LFI- Leica International Fotografie.

http://www.LEICA-CAMERA-BERLIN.COM presented last year a photography art project parallel to the MagnumPhotos show at the Camerawerk Gallery and the Berlinale Film Festival (documentary films 'Magnum in Motion').

Then Meister was forced to make a name change "without Leica".

re: LEICA-CAMERA-BERLIN.COM

re: <"Steven K. Lee is gone..." permalink #240>

LEICA BERLIN

carstenw: "...That is a good point about brandname ownership. I never thought it that big a deal, to be honest, and I don't see why ywould go up against your flagship dealer over such an issue. Those who have been to the Leica Camera Berlin store know what a sharp design it has, and it could easily represent Leica..."

aXs: as I said, "Martin Meister was in continued conflict with Steven K. Lee - also about the promotion of Meister's newly branded Leica Flagship-store in Berlin.

Steven K. Lee wanted the Leica M8 camera to be promoted in-store with more creative activity and photo/art-related projects - and sponsoring events.

carstenw: "...far more concerned about smaller places with garbage designs brandishing the LEICA name all over, making for a very unattractive presentation..."

aXs: I think you are refering to eBay Leica re-sellers and online shops using the Leica brand name as well as local second-hand camera stores - or private websites?

...which comes back to the theme who _really_ owns the LEICA brand name? The customers or the sharholder(s)... in this case the "customer".

Having two teenagers in the house I have free access to all this stuff; I have to say that some of these bands turn out to be one-trick ponies, the Kaiser Chiefs being a good example. Their second albumn is truly dire. as was Dido's and Keane's.

I'm expectantly awaiting the re-formed The Verve's new release. Lead singer Richard Ashcroft has one of the best voices around (although some of the lyrics can be cringe-worthy at times).

Another favourite is Richard Hawley, erm, what was the question again?
