I’m recognizing those halos from the 1.4 shot. At first i thought my copy was defective but no !

My story is different. Before I pulled the trigger for my first copy, I came across this link and was obsessed with its rendition at F1.4. I even had a big folder in my computer dedicated to images produced by this lens fully-opened I could find on the Internet. However, after I started using it, I've found that it has another forte--the tone. Unlike many ASPH era lenses, this lens produces images with a lot of tonal details (and without excessive magenta cast.) Thus I like to use it at most apertures. I can say that 35mm Summilux pre-ASPH was responsible for my interest in Mandler's lenses.

Thanks for that link. It's an interesting thread.

Sometimes futuristic architecture becomes somewhat dreamy by the Summilux 35 preasph at aperture 1.4.

The main difference for me between the Cron v4 and the Lux is the coatings.  The v4 is double coated.  Also - to my eyes - the Lux is a bit sharper...

On a side note - I did fine that my early lux was way more muted in its color rendition.  Coatings may have changed over time or maybe its just age.  My later lux produces much more saturated colors.

It is quite possible to mimic more modern rendering with the 35/1.4 v2 but it requires some effort in PP (here on R-D1). Il won't work like a modern lens though in that it has less acutance, less contrast and more flare than both 35/2 asph and 35/1.4 FLE. Let alone the 35/1.4 v1 wich is even less contrasty with more flare if i remember well but memory may serve me badly. I have no experience with pre-FLE asph lenses but they they must be fantastic if they have a steel front rim (do they?) :D. Just kidding.

May I ask the difference between the V1, early V2, late V2, black vs titan, etc.... are they all the same ?

Maybe you've missed them but have you not seen the answers that have been provided when you've asked this question previously?

I think I have developed a liking for this ‘look’ too, but for reasons you may also understand, I like it on film and esp. b&w but on digital and esp. colour, it seems a bit out of place.

No, you didn't have to.
Do you even have permission from Michel.Roth for this?

I’m NOT advocating any violation of forum rules.

As an FYI only - Copyright has an ill defined exception for editorial use where it is used to illustrate a comment and not for commercial purposes.

Just an FYI.

@evikne how would you compare this 35 Summilux pre-asph at f/2.0 to the 35 Summicron v4 at f/2.0?

As I mentioned in another thread, maybe the Summilux has a tiny bit more character and "richer" rendering. But no distinct difference.

Yes, copyright is regulated and defined very differently in many countries.
And then there is the behavior, particularly popular on the Internet, of considering everything to be permitted, which could not be fined or only ineffective deleted after publication.
My personal conclusion: Whose behavior appears to me legally or morally questionable or even just unfriendly will no longer be able to get any comments by me due to my limited free time.
