Well, sharp is good in any situation however closely cropped images tend to be unimaginative and lacking any "story" going on. Stuart's images above might highlight what I am saying. I really like the first image showing the birds natural perch but the 100% crop or images like them prove nothing except for the fact that a particular lens is super sharp or the person knows how to use Topaz AI. So I thought it must be a "norm" or an unspoken standard to get very close and or crop closely to the subject as these are the most liked type of images on social media. Shooting "small in the frame" allows me to add the landscape element and place the bird into the context of nature. Welcome, dear visitor! Timkr Posted May 28, 2024 Share #254 Posted May 28, 2024 Does anyone here carry their 90-280 using a qr connection to a plate attached to the foot of the 90-280? It looks like the foot attachment of the 90-280 is not as robust as the similar Sony attachments. Just curious if it’s safe to use this method. Thanks

Thanks I use the 90-280 lens footing on one of three heads. I found the lens would have some drooping movement on a cheaper ball head so I sourced a pano head from Aratech which is excellent. Also tried a nodal slider to balance the lens and camera. With a new QR clamp I sourced to replace a redundant Arca Swiss QR. The Arca Swiss ball head really locks the lens down, the repair (replacement} QR was successful after using some heat on the old one attached to the ball head. The Acratech can be used as a kind of gimbal with the 90-280. It works really well however I haven't tried it for tracking birds yet. The Leica foot is quite robust I thought. I have seen one loosen up around the collar (once), resulting in the lens barrel shifting when in use but after a quick remedy, it was fixed. Timkr Posted May 29, 2024 Share #257 Posted May 29, 2024 I can see where the 100-400 foot is probably a better solution. I was asking about a plate with qr attached to the original 90-280 foot. Thanks

Thanks Not quite sure if this is what you are asking or not, but I use a Really Right Stuff plate on the 90-280 lens foot. It’s the L85 Fore-Aft Plate. It works great. I’ve used many Really Right stuff products over the years and all have been top quality.
