pgh Posted August 26, 2018 Share #61 Posted August 26, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The statement was "other brands deliver" implying something is wrong with Leica. That is not the case. I work with literally hundreds of professional photographers, working photographers, Getty photographers, veteran photographers of every age who buy Canon for those auto-focusing white lenses and Nikon for their innovative image stabilization. All the rest of your "reasons" are offered up by the amateur hobbyist to justify his choice after the fact, not by the pro who knows lost images are lost income. I will challenge you on the "service" aspect. If the fear of device failure were as prominent as you suggest you would never see a Nikon at a Canon-supported event and vice versa. That is clearly not true as I see about equal numbers of black and of white lenses at big events like the Indy 500, the Brickyard, Formula 1 etc where one or both Japanese manufacturers have on-site service and repair. Not every press photographer is shooting race cars for a wire service. You know people who buy them for those reasons. As a working photographer the past 10 years who also knows many other professionals who did not buy the cameras for your stated reasons all I have to say is that your blanket assertions are too broad, and your definition of what matters only to amateurs is incorrect. With some clients and editorial jobs lost dynamic range and lost resolution also counts as a lost image. I shot all my jobs with Nikon gear that had no IS, and many that had no need for AF, and even using lenses that were in the same range as the Leica stable. There are still press photographers out there who work on intimate, long term documentary work where a lens or two and a camera and time are the main priorities, and Leica should be perfect for them, but they're still mostly not using them for a myriad of reasons. And I never said the Japanese brands leave working photographers in fear of failure - just the opposite. It's a big reason that they're so universally used. And that Leica is not. Abram Posted August 27, 2018 Share #62 Posted August 27, 2018 As to lenses - buying use is risky, especially newer ones - there is often a reason that the lens is being sold, people tend to hang on to Leica lenses when they are happy with them Jaap I totally agree, I know and understand I inherently take a risk in buying used equipment which is why I said I can't fault Leica directly for the experiences I've had. I'm grateful I have third party resources I can rely upon to get my equipment up to spec at any rate. If I had the means to do so I would always be buying new, but it's not typically economically feasible for me. I did purchase my M10 new last year after consolidating and liquidating equipment and I have been fortunate to not have any issues with mine, I can say that much. Guest tofu_man Posted August 27, 2018 Share #63 Posted August 27, 2018 It is one of Leica's strengths that they are open to a personal approach. Leica shouldn't have to reply on a 'personal approach' in the first place. A CEO of a major luxury watch brand recently commented to a friend of mine that Leica's executive team is "a joke", and after owning 13 digital Leica's and many lenses, I'm sadly inclined to agree. When my IWC or Rolex needs a service then I can take it into a boutique, and have it sorted in a couple of weeks.....and I get a cup of coffee and a couple of cookies too When my Leica's camera's & lenses have had issues (far too many times), the boutiques and dealers didn't seem to want to know, and the experience has been painful, frustrating and lengthy each time. I've had a dozen or so digital Leicas and many lenses so I don't think my poor experience is an outlier.
jaapv Posted August 27, 2018 Share #64 Posted August 27, 2018 I knew there was a reason that I buy Leicas and not Rolexes...
Guest Posted August 27, 2018 Share #65 Posted August 27, 2018 Like everyone else on this thread I am pleased that "Spice" has had a happy resolution to the problem with his M10, for sure a replacement is what should have happened without him having to appeal to the Forum for help, advice and I believe some intervention by "jaapv"............ But I would ask that we do not indulge in calling out on a public forum those employees of Leica's CS that may have displeased us in some way or other. We don't know what goes on internally when decisions are made that do frustrate and annoy us and we are not fully aware either of the parameters they are obliged to work to in assessing a customer's complaint. Sure, go to department heads by all means, that's what they are there for and even name names to them too but I think it's wrong to name individuals on Forums such as this when it's all too easy to besmirch a reputation of a CS employees. I say all of this because as I stated in an earlier post on this thread I have had nothing but first class service from the CS department at Leica and that named individual in particular and I sincerely hope that she has not been sanctioned in anyway because of this airing of the OP's dilemma. pico Posted August 27, 2018 Share #66 Posted August 27, 2018 Not every press photographer is shooting race cars for a wire service. You know people who buy them for those reasons. I had two friends who shot pro sports and Canon was always very helpful to lend them a big white, super expensive tele in top condition.
jaapv Posted August 27, 2018 Share #67 Posted August 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The lady in question has a good reputation for customer-friendliness both inside her department and with customers. I would suggest that we don’t assign blame without knowing the background facts.

Spice Posted August 27, 2018 Author Share #69 Posted August 27, 2018 Im sorry i never had the intention of blaming any employee of Leica. If it has seemed so i just have to make a big apologize ( if any moderator thinks its better to edit my initial post i have no problem). It,s been nothing personal she was just the contact person from leica, and in fact she finally resolved my case, never doubted about her profesionality and excellent reputation. Finally i,m happy because i stay with my equipment working wich is all i wanted. I received it today. This doesnt mean i may have issues in future as everyone can have, i just to say finally this service is what i expected initially from such a prestigious brand. Also of course i,m grathed again for all forum members for help and understanding. I like this community Hope i can contribute in future with more happy things, and help other members also. Best regards again!
