I have not read the article in the latest LFI magazine regarding the competibality of the SF C1 to Nissin i60a.

However I've tried paring the SF C1 to a i60a, it paired and fired the flash successfully by hitting the SF C1 'test' button. But when the SF C1 is mounted onto the Leica SL, it would not trigger the flash.

Others had the same experience on i60a as well as the newly launched Nissin MG10 flash.

I think Nissin did not provide a firmware adjustment to accept SF c1 to its NAS system.

I posted this issue to Nissin Facebook but they did not provide any reply.

I received this reply to Nissin about the same issue--particulary regarding the MG10. I have not tried the x-sync option yet.

 Nissin's reply:

Thank you for your purchase of Nissin Flash.

Since Leica SF C1 controller is a new product from Leica Company.

Sorry for we have not the Compatibility information of your Leica controller work with our MG10 flash at this moment.

There may have a need of the firmware update on our flash to support a new controller/commander

We will pass your email to our Technical team to ask for further assist.

At this moment, we would like to suggest you to try to use the X-Sync with Manual power control function on our MG10 to work with your Leica camera via a third party trigger.

To know more about the setup details of X-sync function,

please find the page 15 of the full user manual of MG10 in here :  http://nissin.lekumo.biz/en/MG10_E_user_manual_v4.pdf

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you again for your kind understanding.

Welcome to contact us again in the future.

Thank you.

Ron,

Don’t you think Nissin’s reply is a joke.

I can understand that the earlier Nissin i60as are not compatible to Leica SF C1 Commander as it appear in the market later. As for the Nissin MG10, it appeared later than the SF C1 yet Nissin still blatantly uses the excuse. They even suggested you use the manual function of MG10! Tell Nissin, you can get the Goddox AD200 that is more powerful and lower cost to work manually with your SL, why bother with Nissin products? Some stupid Japanese manufacturers just do not know how to position their products. I think the MG10 is destined to fail when the go for cut throat competition with the Chinese strobe makers for the mainstream Nikon & Canon market....sigh.

Actually, I feel quite sorry for the bloke who had to write the mail. A classic case of customer service let down by R&D, who failed to reverse engineer Leica's flash system.

Is there any new in this topic?

I tried to pair Nissin Air R with Leica SF C1. Pairing works. There are sounds on Air R when changing parameters on the SF C1, but the flash (I mountained Leica SF 64) didn't fire on the shutter pressed. I changed the flash to Leica SF60 (w/o wireless option - the same - not firing).

I have the Leica SF 58 flash unit ...It implies in the SFC1 data sheet it is compatible with the SF58 but then I guess the SF58 needs to be able to have a ireless capability of 2.4GHz but that is not mentioned i the manual Does anyone know if it is compatible with SF58?

I really would like to find a way to trigger the flash and shutter on a M10 with the viso fitted but so far do not know how this can be done...if anyone has any ideas ..Great?

You can only do that through the X sync point found on the M240 Multifunction Hand Grip + Manual flash wireless trigger such as the Pocketeizard plus III. That was my set up when I was using the M240. Since moving to M10 then now M10R. I just use the rear LCD view finder to focus. I did not bother buying the EVF anymore as any shots using f5.6 and smaller aperture, I revert to using the RF mechanism. I reserve the camera hotshoe  for my SFC1 when required.
