@Rangefinderny,

First off, welcome to the forum - glad to have you as a member.

You seem to like the chrome MP with the blue leather.  If so, I say buy it.  This will most likely not be your first and only Leica M; most of us here have more than one M camera in more than one finish or combination of finish and leather.

The last photo - which you said is the most accurate in terms of showing the actual color of the leather - shows it to be a midnight blue that is almost black.  If you mount a black lens on it, it would be like pairing black shoes with a navy suit and a stainless steel watch; a classic look.

I have an M-P 240 Safari which has chrome accents and came with a chrome 35 Summicron.  When I'm photographing, I put my black lenses on it without a second thought.  When I'm photographing, I am so focused on my subject that I am oblivious to the color of the lens - or the camera.  All tat matters is capturing the fleeting, elusive image that you have pre-visualized and are anticipating.

I have the chrome 35 Summicron which makes for a matching set, which is nice for showing the camera off to friends but when I need a specific focal length for a shoot, matching colors is the last thing I think about.

Ermagawd, that is freaking gorgeous.  Just buy the darn thing.  It's been a 'one day some time' dream of mine to either get a silver chrome M with blue or red leather, or re-cover my silver M7 with blue or red leather.  Does it make you smile when you hold it? Does it make you want to shoot with it?  Can you imagine yourself using it the way you want?  If so, buy it.  So envious now.

I know, I know, silver or black ok, ok.  So I'm in the market for an MP Black

however,  I came across this beauty in silver with BLUE  wrap (sort of dark blue, almost black in certain light)

The pluses, its gorgeous with a silver 35mm, The negatives, its not black and if you switch to a 28 or 50 those lenses are only made in black...unless you want to spend 9k.  so I'd have a silver Leica with blue wrap and black lens in 28 or 50. hmmm

Im curious to hear the communities thoughts.

Thank you.

It's a fine looking camera but I'd hold out since you wanted black paint.  However, if the price on that beauty is right I'd go for it.  Like someone mentioned, you can always replace the cover if you get tired of the blue.  If you like the blue, you can get a used black MP and then have it wrapped in blue.  Which ever way you go, I'd personally not get hung up on the finish of the lenses you use.  I see no problem with using a black lens on a chrome camera, or vice versa.

I always think of resale value and I'm not sure how much of a premium (or discount) the pictured camera will get.  Judging by the responses to your post, I'd say it's a mixed bag.

By the way, how new is that camera?  I thought Leica quit offering al a carte for MPs many years ago. Could it be an after-market wrap?

Interesting.

I had read on a couple of "Brand X" forums that Leica's a la carte option had been scuttled.  No documentation to that effect was provided, though.

A highly reputable dealer told me al a carte is no longer available for MPs, but the website link P provided says otherwise.  Just for grins I built a custom MP with blue leather, a matching blue strap, .72mm viewfinder magnification without the 75mm frame lines and no engraving. $5,413 US.  It looks fantastic.  Stylish but hardy.

Geez, be careful when posting pictures like that. I only just changed my pants, now I'll have to change them again. :D

And that's the great thing about digging up an old thread.  With Leica it doesn't matter because there's a good chance that the camera originally discussed a decade ago is still in production.

I love my blue M3.  Done with boring.  I do think though that the coloured leathers only work well with the silver/chrome cameras.

If I had a silver MP - would totally change the leather out to something way more interesting and fun.

I almost bought a beater M2 knowing it needed a CLA+ and re-skinned.  Had I, I would have had it done it in blue leather.

The thing is the leathers are cheap.  Maybe $30.  So if you change your mind later, you can replace the leather.

The main reason why I did it on my M3 was because the original vulcanite was literally crumbling off in my hands.
