At most i was shocked by the Mausoleum.
It is a giant bowl of concrete covered with a conrete dome. It is filled with an unbelievable huge mass of ashes which is the remains of the burned people from the crematorium.

So very haunting.

Your photographs superbly capture the eeriness and horror of the camps.

Thank you for sharing them.

I find it very difficult to look at these photos. As a German, I am ashamed that our nation was responsible for these terrible crimes.
And I am very concerned that there are again people in Germany (AFD, NPD, Reichsbürger, Identitarians, etc.) who have forgotten all this and are spreading their Nazi ideas again!
I despise these people.

Thank you, Andreas, for taking a look, and for your comments.

We, too, in the USA are dealing with this revival of this enthusiasm for hate, so it is good to have collective condemnation.  Hopefully, expressed moral outrage, such as yours (and others who have commented), will ultimate douse these feelings.

With appreciation,

Rob

For those with a continuing interest in the Holocaust, this Oscar winning netflix documentary is a wonderful 1.5 hour presentation by 5 camp survivors, one of whom is U.S. House of Representative member Tom Lantos, who served in Congress for 20+ years as the only survivor ever to serve in the U.S. Congress.

Produced by Steven Spielberg.

The testimony is disturbing as the survivors try bring closure by returning to their homes and the camps where they were imprisoned. Compelling, in that they survived and built lives and families in the ashes of their experiences.

"Final Account": a terrific documentary that has  just come out, written by Luke Holland, from Shropshire, England, who had learned that his mother was Jewish when he was a teenager, and that her family had been killed in the camps. (He is recently deceased from cancer and a link to his bio from The Guardian is below).

This fascinating documentary consists of numerous recent interviews with still-alive SS members, and other local Germans, who had been involved in the atrocities. (Trailer attached).

The conversations - so very revealing about their perspectives as to what happened - were fascinating, illuminating, and in many cases still very disturbing.

Hi Verwackelt.

I just saw the documentary as a limited release at one of our local theaters (which still remain sparsely attended due to covid restrictions). I do not know of plans for its release, but will keep my eyes open in the coming days.

Regards,

Rob

Sonke,

I did look for more information about release:  Apparently it is limited so far.

It is not on Netflix or Amazon, and there is no release information yet available.  It just came out in our movie theaters on a very limited engagement a couple of weeks ago. I would think that there will be more information coming soon.

Stay safe,

Rob
