visoflex Posted July 25, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just got my M10 and am in the process of setting up my preferences. In case I've missed something, what do you experienced users find useful to put in your favourites menu?
Advertisement Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Hi visoflex, Take a look here M10 - Favourites menu. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
albertknappmd Posted July 25, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2018 It is really up to you! You can put any of the menu items in and if you find they are not being used, out they go.. Albert
UliWer Posted July 25, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 25, 2018 Put in those functions you presume to change most often. Mine are: Lens detection. Drive Mode Exp Compensation Flash Settings Iso Setup White Balance File Format Main Menu. (I confess that besides "Lens detection" i do not change any of them). M11 for me Posted July 25, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2018 Anyway, I put a lot of energy in settings these Favorites right (ie. to my likings). But I do not use them either :-)j)j)
UliWer Posted July 25, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 25, 2018 Lens detection. Hm First position. Hm, Hm Yes, and as I said, it's the only one where I change functions regularly: - for using R-lenses with the R-to-M-Adapter - for using LTM-lenses with an adapter which doesn't cover the LED for lens detection to switch it off - sometimes for one of my many uncoded lenses to choose a detection manually from the list (for instance when I use Auto-Iso focal length dependant)

I did not understand that one. I just wondered what this +ould be good for at all. I am sorry. I am al Leica user only for a bit more than one year. I should be more quiet here . . . . evikne Posted July 25, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 25, 2018 I have put Date & Time in the Favorites menu, because I adjust the time twice a year. Except from that I don't use the menu for anything special.
M11 for me Posted July 25, 2018 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2018 I have now the ultimate longing to communicate my settins (as it took me so much energy to put these sttings to my „needs“) - Drive Mode - Exp. Metering - ISO Setup - Capture Assistants (forgot why I put that one in. Probably to fill the page) - Lod profile - Customize control Date & Time When I look at those I would say that - Drive Mode - Date & Time . . I would use. The rest . . . jonoslack Posted July 25, 2018 Share #10 Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) Interesting topic -Lens Detection - not often used, but occasionally (I have a borrowed 75 'lux uncoded and a 60 macro elmarit R) -ISO Setup - used less now that the base ISO is 200 - but useful -M-ISO - a relic from the days of blown highlights at 100 ISO -White Balance - used quite often . . but mostly so that I can see that it's set at daylight (sunny) -Load Profile - used a lot -WLAN - used a lot -Format SD - used every day I think that they're really useful, but perhaps more to remind one of things to be aware of than actually things to change. M11 for me Posted July 25, 2018 Share #11 Posted July 25, 2018 Format SD Card i do not at all. I just delete the images in the M10 (by the menu)
Gobert Posted July 25, 2018 Share #12 Posted July 25, 2018 Format SD is on purpose not in my favorites. Although used frequently, it’s safer to hide it a little bit.
jonoslack Posted July 25, 2018 Share #13 Posted July 25, 2018 Format SD Card i do not at all. I just delete the images in the M10 (by the menu) Well I use it when I went out yesterday and took 300 shots . . . and today I'm going out to do something different! Doing from the menu would be a real pain. I do my picture culling in Lightroom, not on the camera. one of the things I like about the M digitals is that Menu / up twice / accept / right / right has always meant format (even from the M8) . . and Gobert, I've never done it by mistake!

visoflex Posted July 25, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted July 25, 2018 Thanks for all the suggestions. Can't think of much else at the moment. The things I have so far are:- Drive Mode Exposure metering ISO set up My present feeling is that anything else would either:- Get In the way of normal day to day shooting Be dangerous if too accessible I'll carry on through the summer and see if anything else comes to mind. adan Posted July 26, 2018 Share #18 Posted July 26, 2018 Mine: Lens Detection - just in case, especially for comparison tests, but...*** Drive Mode Exp. Comp ISO setup - I use the ISO dial for 100-6400, and usually leave 12500 ("one stop faster") as the "M" ISO. Date & Time - I don't wear a watch; the M10 is my "clock" when shooting Format SD Sensor Cleaning Main Menu With that set, I virtually never go into the main menu for anything. And don't need to use the expanded "Favorites" permitted with the newest firmware (why mess with two pages?!) In fact, I may shoot for weeks without even using any of the grayed-out items (Exp. comp. via the thumbwheel - always!) - they are just there to fill space. ____________________ *** ...frankly, with the M10's new microlens design, all my uncoded lenses from 35-135 work beautifully with this just left as "135." I have a coded 21, and a second body that carries the 28mm (uncoded, selected).
Bunza Posted July 26, 2018 Share #19 Posted July 26, 2018 -ISO Setup - used less now that the base ISO is 200 - but useful-M-ISO - a relic from the days of blown highlights at 100 ISO-White Balance - used quite often . . but mostly so that I can see that it's set at daylight (sunny) FWIW Thanks Jono, Can you please explain your comments regarding ISO, are you using auto ISO? Do you prefer to measure the white balance rather than use auto? Or, do you select the most appropriate preset? Thanks, Bunza

Do you prefer to measure the white balance rather than use auto? Or, do you select the most appropriate preset? Thanks, Bunza Hi There Bunza I do use auto ISO, the later firmware has changed the base from 100 ISO (where highlights could get blown) to 200 ISO (where they don't): Here is an explanation of this: http://www.slack.co.uk/m10-and-blown-highlights.html I use daylight white balance (sunny) for everything - except when I'm in artificial lighting in which case I use Auto - I don't often change it in favorites, but I can check to see what it is. hope that helps best
