Fauxtog Posted July 24, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 24, 2018 Fun shot but the clipping does bother me.
stuny Posted July 25, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted July 25, 2018 Coos, Graham, Louis, Thomas, Shawn & Hans Peter - Thank you. Bill - when I saw the hat I knew I had to take the shot. Peter - Thank you. After reading your comment I went back to the original image to see if there was enough there to salvage, but there was not--far too much clipping. I guess I should have taken my fast shot (this one), and then seen if I could have fine tuned a better one.
stuny Posted July 26, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted July 26, 2018 Fred & Edgard - thank you. Peter - I had another idea re: your comment and will post it here if I find it works.
stuny Posted July 26, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted July 26, 2018 I thought that I might be able to overcome the clipping issue Peter pointed out via cropping. It works but I think the original composition may be stronger. Welcome, dear visitor! abrewer Posted July 27, 2018 Share #7 Posted July 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Simpler is always better. The cropped final product has a "painterly" quality that I find attractive. Well done, Stuart. That book Valley of Genius: The Uncensored History of Silicon Valley is very popular right now. WhippingPost Posted July 27, 2018 Share #9 Posted July 27, 2018 It's the hat and the partly covered face that continually draw my attention to this picture and to this thread. Notwithstanding the blown highlights, the woman is perfectly posed and captured, just like an Irving Penn fashion shot. Good eye, Stuart.

StS Posted July 29, 2018 Share #11 Posted July 29, 2018 The lighting works very well, I also like the detail of the well readable book title. Difficult to choose - for the first, I like the contrast of the brightly lit foreground to the black background, where the only parts with tonality are emphasizing the lady, her hat and book. Strange way to get an idea which book to buy, my travel focus has moved, while I have set the second hour hand on my watch to PT rather than UTC +8 recently. Fauxtog Posted July 30, 2018 Share #14 Posted July 30, 2018 Much prefer the cropped version. I like the new diagonal composition and now that the book title becomes more of the story it is much more interesting and intriguing than any simple window shopping picture could be. I'll even forgive the clipping on the hat...
