Noctilux 095 with 10 stop ND filter to bring out the grass

f8 6 seconds and iso100

Surely, if you took off the ND filter you could have shot at something like 1/125 or 1/250  at f8 and got the same exposure

so you wouldn't have needed a tripod?

Dazed and confused!

And used ISO200 which is nearer native ISO/best image quality. But it is a broad church and if you are having fun, that's great.

Maybe it would help your confusion if you read the previous messages

I did, and you still haven’t answered Jaap’s first question.  You wrote that you used the   10 stop ND filter “ to bring out the grass.”  Jaap asked how that’s accomplished and your response was “I don’t get the question.”  I’m inclined to think that you understand the question, just not the answer. Comments by Jono and others concern well known uses and effects of ND filters. We’re still waiting for your clarification.  Playing around to see what happens is a good learning tool, but that doesn’t answer Jaap’s simple question.

He did. The answer had to do with gearbox grease, Vaseline, and f@*#&ng around to see the results. I‘m not sure Neil was talking about photography, though. 😁

Exactly... more WD 40 than ND 10.

Err.. you said Jono was confused when he contradicted you. You're mixing people up now.

Anyway, indulge me and answer the original questions: how does a 10x N D filter bring out the grass?  Why did you use an ND filter at all? If you think you did, please repeat the answer, as nobody has seen it.

There is nothing wrong with experimenting. How satisfied are you then with the result and with how the grass is rendered? Will you continue the experiments? What brand of ND filter did you use. Did you experience any colour shift that you had to correct in post?

Previous pictures taken with any ND filters have a slight color shift but I find BW filers are best.

I will always keep experimenting....... it’s something that I enjoy doing.
