jmahto Posted July 22, 2018 Share #1 Â Posted July 22, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I find it much easier to change film mid roll and to put it back in M2 style of loading. I am able to load it more precisely and not lose more than one frame (to be safe) in one unload/load cycle. Â With all the stuff I read about how inconvenient, M2/M3 style film loading is, to the contrary, I find it more precise and easy. Not fast though but then motor winders with auto loading mechanism will be faster than any M. Â Anyone else feel that way?

105012 Posted July 23, 2018 Share #3  Posted July 23, 2018 I have both kinds of film loading M’s and also prefer the earlier film loading. In addition to finding it more reliable, I do not notice that it takes particularly long to load a film, probably because practice has made it a relatively unconscious and fast operation these days.
colint544 Posted July 23, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted July 23, 2018 Couldn't agree more. M2/M3 loading mechanism is my favourite of all. It's 100% secure and reliable, and zero slippage or uncertainty. I use an M2 regularly and I know, when I reach the end of the roll, that's that. Never any problem. Takes more time and trouble to load my M5.
TomB_tx Posted July 23, 2018 Share #5 Â Posted July 23, 2018 I've been using an M4 (etc) since 1968, and don't recall ever having loading issues. Maybe it depends on what system you are used to.
Frase Posted July 23, 2018 Share #6 Â Posted July 23, 2018 Yes I prefer it too, I've found that with my M4 and certain types of film I have to fold 5mm ish over to get it to grip a bit better maybe my M4 is a bit worn.
pico Posted July 23, 2018 Share #7 Â Posted July 23, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Couldn't agree more. M2/M3 loading mechanism is my favourite of all. Â Here is Tom Abrahamsson loading an M2. He is using, in part, his own M2 RapidWinder, but it would be the same without.
