I have been delighted with results from the 21-35 on my M10-R. With the Visoflex 2 no problem in focusing. It is a bit on the heavy side but not as much as the Zeiss 28-85 which I have also been using.  An example below.

Wilson, I can echo a similar sentiment about the excellent results, which I also had with the 28-90 R zoom. I bought the earlier M (240) as soon as the optional Visoflex and R-M adapter became available (as the first available "native Leica" digital R solution). As I recall, the response time for moving subjects wasn't great with the M240 + Visoflex, but since I essentially shoot static subjects, that wasn't a problem. I later moved to an SL2 which had IBIS as well, and used the M just as a rangefinder camera with a lovely little Summarit 35/2.4 M. (I've recently traded the latter for a Q3 which also has IS, because of a worsening tremor.)

John,

Similar experience with arthritic tremor, which covid exacerbated a lot. My Q3 now gets more use than my M10-R, which I mainly now use with wide angle lenses like the 21/2.8 Zeiss Biogon and 18mm SEM, where tremor is less photographically evident.

Happy with the combo Keith? I recently capitulated and bought a near new one (R21-35 I mean), and have wondered about using it on the M11-P (although I don't have the Visoflex) I tried it on the SL2 (digital) briefly, with mixed slightly out of focus results. Needs more trialing I think.

Hi Gary - it has been quite a while since I used it (the photos posted are from 2018 - been having a dig in my LR archive!).  Used it quite a lot on R5, M240, M10M & A7III.  Absolutely no complaints performance-wise. Bit of a hefty beast though.  Swapped the M240 for an M11 in summer '22 and I don't seem to have tried it out yet on the M11.

Example with M10M.

Thank you Keith, as well as Wilson and John. I'll have to try it then, although it seems more logical (is that a word in LeicaLand?) to just use the 21~35mm on my SL2, as the EVF etc makes this simpler. I will however give it some time on the M11 as well. Appreciate all the comments.

Obtained a nice R8 recently, and ran a trial roll of Fomapan 100 through it, used a 35~70 for this.

The R8 is a fabulous camera. You will love it. You have two great lenses. All that is 'missing' is  an 80mm 1.4 R. That camera has so many clever features, I wonder it ever went out of production. A handy addition is  the R winder. Useful in many situations, but it does add bulk and weight.

I bought an R9 many years ago and it has been a faithful servant ever since. The only problem I had was a failure of the motor on the power winder, which I now know was due to my having left it at the end of a film and not rewound immediately. This is an absolute "no no", as the motor remains powered up even though the camera is off. It then overheats and dies. I ended up buying a new old stock R8 as it very oddly came with 2 motor winders, so I now have a spare camera for the R9 and a winder on each. Sometimes my right thumb, like today, goes on strike and will not operate a lever wind, so all my main user film cameras from the IIIa onwards, have motor winders on them. I have been looking out for years for a MOOLY-C for my red blinds "Stepper" IIIc but so far two broken ones and a MOOLY (a) masquerading as a MOOLY-C. I am not prepared to pay over £4000 for a MOOLY-C.

I am more of a wide angle photographer so my 21-35 Vario Elmar is a near permanent fixture on my R9 and a 35 Summicron on my R8.

Fully concur Erl, and Wilson, l have had R8's before but this is staying, it's just perfect for me. I now tend to carry it with the R21~35, and a 50 Summilux, all I need.

Something I have been wanting to try for quite some time.

100mm apo macro, at full aperture. Used my cooled astro camera (designed specifically for astro use).

17 exposures, each 30 secs each. Calibrated with darks, flats, and biases, then stacked.

I was aiming to shoot a heap more, but high cloud closed it all down.

This was with a near full moon present (just came in and processed it).

Needs a wider field of view perhaps, and a moonless night, AND a dark site, my backyard has two street-lights pointed at where I took this. Such is life in the city.
