Female Emperor Dragonfly photographed at approx 6 metres lens to subject distance when 'hovering in flight' whilst ovipositing.  Leica SL 601 / Novoflex 64cm focal length lens /  Leitz R 2x APO extender .... at high ISO with Noflexar 2 element objective stopped down to 'effective' f22. I've noticed that 2 and 3 element Novoflex Noflexar 'telescope' objectives' performances 'appear to improve' when coupled to Leitz R 1.4x and 2x, APO extenders – possibly because the resultant images utilise only the objectives' centres and not their perimeter glass?. The illustrated 'set-up' looks unwieldy and heavy but it's relatively lightweight and well balanced via the gimbal at the C.O.G.  It's not so difficult to photograph a large 'female' dragonfly in flight with a manual focus lens when the specimen repeatedly hovers over its chosen ovipositing area. The Novoflex 'follow focus' mount's built-in bellows was extended to almost 'maximum' and the bellows finely adjustable length was utilised for fine focus – after initial 'rough focus' using the 'follow focus trigger. The SL 601's 'magnified live view' also of advantage for achieving accurate focus
