Hy expert Leica M6 users.

Some days ago I bought a M6 body and have some questions, using a Summicron 50mm LTM lens I have (by the while) with it related ring adapter:

a) how works the photometer area selection with different focal lenses. Does it change as well does the lens adapter ring selectig the bright line frame in the range finder? And, in what mecanic, optical or electronic way?

B) how to file the 50/75 adapter ring to match 35/135mm lenses.

Thanks for your valuable responses.

Hello Carlos,

Welcome,

You may download the M6 manual from some websites, just search for that.

As here, in french sorry:

http://www.summilux.net/documents/index.php

or in German, here at Wiki:

https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/M6

You may find that the M6 changes the mesured pattern with lens mounted: about 2/3 of short side, in the center a large "round spot".

Lens or adapter select mechanically the frame lines in M6.

You can file a 50mm ring to 35mm, just select the right (looking from front) about + or - 1mm

...but I would't do that (just buy another 35/135 ring)

Thanks for your quick response. I got the pdf manual from mr. google but it doesnt tell the way the camera change that measured spot when one mount, in the correspondant adapter, say the 35 or the 135mm lens.

As I cant find in my place the 35/135 adapter and want to use a Summaron 35mm in my only 50/75 adapter, want to know how to compensate the photometer metering.

I know is hard and of impredictable result to file the ring so I ll wait my next fly to Miami to get both 35/135 and 28/90 rings.

The M6 meter doesn’t depend on the lens or adapter, it is not spot, but effectively center-weighted, covering the same percentage of the film frame regardless of the lens. You can always use the frame preview lever to show the frame area of different lenses, with the metering primarily a blob about 2/3 of the frame height.

To better visualize, look through the finder at a bright spot (light bulb) with a dark background, and watch the reading as you pan it around the frame.
