designdog Posted June 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 7, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got mine, and have a few questions. First, the screw does not screw into the camera with the "shim" panel included. Works fine without it though. What is that shim for, then? Second, and most troublesome, I can't seem to "unscrew" or remove the screw that comes with the cover. I want to do this because I bought some d-ring type screws for easy opening. It almost looks like there is a black ring at the base that retains the Leica screw. I certainly don't want to rip open the new half case! Any thoughts? Thanks. designdog Posted June 7, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted June 7, 2018 What make is it? It is the Leica M10 "Leather Protector" which is a half case with the separate flap in back that protects the screen. Made by Leica.
bencychin Posted June 7, 2018 Share #4 Posted June 7, 2018 It is the Leica M10 "Leather Protector" which is a half case with the separate flap in back that protects the screen. Made by Leica. Please read Best Half Case for M10 post # 53. It explained how to remove the screw. There is a black rubber ring holding the screw that you need to remove. Gobert Posted June 7, 2018 Share #5 Posted June 7, 2018 And place another to prevent falling out. Mine goes perfect in with the shim panel. In the meantime I’ve glued it.
mdemeyer Posted June 8, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2018 You only use the shim when not using the rear flap. Not both at once.
designdog Posted June 8, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted June 8, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) You only use the shim when not using the rear flap. Not both at once. Thanks! Makes perfect sense! However, I have found that, with the shim and the rear flap both in, the screw cannot each the tripod hole. A detriment for screwing it in, yes, but a boon if you want to leave the screw in (and not risk tearing up your case) and simply not screw it at all. As long as the fit is tight enough, thats how I will do it...
Gobert Posted June 8, 2018 Share #8 Posted June 8, 2018 In case of tripod use I apply an RRS bottom plate.
