Finally tried the new primes

I got my hands on the 75mm and 90mm SL Summicrons... They are rather small... On the camera they feel a little more compact than my 75mm Summilux M. A little fatter of course, but not as long. They really are a nice size. Autofocus is fine for my purposes... Very fast outdoors, even on a dark, cloudy day. They hunted a little indoors but still acquired focus. Manual focusing feels good. Image quality is game-changing, though far too much micro intraday for pictures of my wife!

Phenomenal resolution, and definitely to be used with care. I took some headshots of a friend yesterday with the 90, and they made her look like one of the subjects in that Bruce Gilden series that Leica are showing at Photo London. If I had shown them to her she would have ripped out both memory cards and swallowed them, and then used the camera to beat the crap out of me.

The new SL 75 is just as sharp as is possible - just like the 90-280.

This is great for many Leica users - after all, hunting for technically perfect pictures is why we spend the money. (No CA neither far away nor close up, no imperfections).

Depth of field is minimal at f 2.0 - (clearer than the 80mm or 85 mm f1.4 I own, clearer also than the SL 50 at f 1.4)

This can be useful, but sometimes also difficult - you get more garbage, because the focus could be on the wrong eye or the nose or the brow instead of the iris. 

Sometimes f 6.3 is the better choice for full satisfaction.

 

It's a nice lens lens to replace the "normal" 50mm. Rather small (well not very big) and handy.

 

It's apo so it's often "too sharp", but that is what the users expect. You can always try to cover up in software.

So true - the SL 2/75 was a nice surprise ... And its tack sharp, as hoped for, expected - but maybe to unforgiving due the details, that not everyone likes... Chapeau to the whole team of Peter Karbe!
