You’ve called “most of the pictures in this thread boring snapshots”. Why don’t you post a few examples of the nice pictures you took, or are you just excellent at judging ?

In my humble opinion, your photographs, Steven, are consistently excellent.

Because I rarely shoot film and if you can't recognize pedestrian photography, well...  I've posted many digitally taken photos on other camera forums but the only Leica I own is my M4 so I visit the film section of this site to stay up on that side of Leica cameras.  If you're offended, get over it and take better photographs.  Feel absolutely free to put me on ignore and you won't be troubled by anything I might say.  Oh, and yes, I'm a pretty good judge of photographic images. 😉  I don't recall your images so maybe you know how to compose and expose something interesting with a point to it vs. random people walking on a street or a cliche image of a tree, car, beach, building, pet, etc., etc.  Or, maybe they're mostly forgettable.  As I don't recall any, I can't say.  Having a nice camera doesn't make one a good photographer and most people posting images online are not very good at it based on my observations.  But photography is a personal thing and if one likes their work and posts it online, they should expect critique/comments and if they don't want to hear that, don't post images.  If all one is doing is trying to get ego likes, be careful where you post!

I’m not offended. I love my photos and I don’t need your validation. I just don’t find it very polite for all the contributors of this thread for you to come and piss on their work/passion/happiness, especially since nobody asked you for your opinion.
i believe that someone should comment if they really like something. If they really don’t, it’s fine too, but there’s no point hurting people for free. No need for negative energy.

i didn’t say anything the first time you posted. I thought the second time was even more unnecessary. Osegal posted a beautiful photo, I agree with you. But you could have just said that. No need to put down others to express that you liked his photo.

It's OK that you don't like my opinion or comments.  I never named names that I recall and have not said anything about your photos, many of which are pleasing.  All my thoughts on this are not personal.  And if mods don't think I should post my thoughts on this subject, they are free to delete them.  But it is a discussion forum and I believe what I've said is largely true.  I'm not hurt that you disagree but you seem to be taking it personally regardless of what you said and it isn't.  Most people only want likes and are uncomfortable with critique.  I understand that.

Ardnamurchan, west coast of Scotland. Ardnamurchan point is the most westerly point of the British mainland, and you often get great sunsets there.

At last, we’ve some fur flying on images rather than than the dick waving and frequent interminable shallow opines on gear, and yes I know this is a “gear” Forum, I learnt that lesson in another life. Here, "it’s about the gear stupid"………But what a welcome change it is to have passions, and oh yes egos too, out in the open over whether a certain photograph “works” or not.

However if you choose to put your work up on the wall, be that a "virtual wall” online, or a gallery, or in book form then all of this goes with the territory, you're fair game, roll with it and if it’s possible for you to do so, learn from it. This is what it is about and if you are serious about your work then you should rock with what comes at you whether it’s plaudits or bricks. No opinion is true for everyone, no “great work” is great for all, we all ride different bikes to wherever we wish to arrive in what we do with this medium. I think it’s fine here to “like” a posted image but I am not sure if this is the place to actually make comments, constructive or otherwise, valid or not. Compliments will always be welcome I guess for those that receive them but criticisms can inflame fragile egos and too often the results aren’t pretty.

I found it a little interesting that where I spoke about this gallery of images in general, a few people took it personally.  I would not critique an individual's work unless it was requested like on some other photo forums.  What I did say was most of the photos I've seen in this gallery are, at best, pedestrian and cliche.  Why would an individual take that personally?  I also made no claims about my own abilities.  My view on the broad area of art is that it's easy for many to recognize great art, music, literature, etc. even if they can't produce it themselves.  I can know that Wayne Shorter was an amazingly talented musician and composer.  I played sax for a few years in school and couldn't play at his level or write music at his level but I can recognize his mastery.  No different than photography.  I've studied it for a good 60 years now and have produced thousands of images, most of which are pedestrian, and a few of which are really good (IMO).  I don't post pedestrian images if I can avoid it and because I've used my M4 so little, only a couple images are worthwhile, nothing worth posting on this topic.  And you are so correct in your comment about gear over art. This is a gear forum and that's where the passion for conversation lies.
