Hi Graham,

I just finished my first roll on the Makina 670 a short while ago. I actually found focusing it relatively easy. In Hamish Gill‘s review of the 67 he says that he doesn’t like the fact so much that the rangefinder patch is not so well defined on the edges. But I find the double image to be very clear and achieving focus snaps quite nicely.
Making photographs with the Makina 670 is a very unique and special experience - in the most positive sense.

Best regards,

Erik

Hi Erik Thanks very much

I've recently purchased one too and completely agree . I love mine and find focusing very easy, as well as enjoying the very large viewfinder

Enjoy the camera

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

very interested in this part. How would you rate the rangefinder in comparison to the standard M 0.72 finder?

Thank you, Alexander

Hi Alexander

I haven’t used a medium format rangefinder before but the PB 670 viewfinder seems huge when looking through it, which I really like. The frame lines a well set in from the outside of the viewfinder (probably between 50mm and 35mm frame lines on an M, which makes sense for equivalent 40mm full frame view). But even so, the space within the frame lines themselves seems huge because of the large viewfinder.  It is a joy to use. I am happy with the contrast and patch definition. I’d honestly say that focussing seems easier than M just because everything is super-sized. But contrast of rangefinder patch is the same or at least not noticeably different, IMO.  EVeb turning the focus ring next to the shutter button seems intuitive. I love mine and considering it’s 6x7 not 6x6 such as mamiya I think the PM really are a fantastic choice

Glückwunsch zur Kamera!

Danke.

I am a Leica M user thinking of buying the [Plaubel Makina] 67 as my entry to medium format, for street portraiture. I hope you don't mind me asking here—how easy is the focusing method (being on the shutter button) to adjust to from Leica M? [...] My shortlist is [Plaubel Makina] 67 or Mamiya 6. I have tried the Mamiya 6 and find it extremely intuitive for an M user.  But I am much more drawn to the rendering of images coming from the 80 mm [lens of the Makina] 67, as well as the build of the camera just looks fantastic.

I have both cameras, the Plaubel and the Mamiya 7. I take 90 % of the medium-format pictures with the Plaubel although handling is much easier with the Mamiya.
