MediaFotografie Posted April 8, 2018 Share #1  Posted April 8, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...the last days I was surprised: could test the 75SL and own the (fantastic) 90SL - both lenses don't include a lense profile in DNG files. All other SL lenses do (even the Summilux-SL has a profile which corrects CA and distorsion).  What's the reason? Maybe Leica means that the new Summicrons don't need such a profile, because they are Apo (no CA) and long focal lenses (no distorsion).  What do you think? It's quite interesting, no digital corrections for these lenses needed!    Welcome, dear visitor! thighslapper Posted April 8, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted April 8, 2018 .... well my LR says 'unable to locate a matching profile automatically'Â Â ...... not clear whether the DNG profile does not exist, or there is an issue with LRÂ
scott kirkpatrick Posted April 9, 2018 Share #3 Â Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) Provide a link to a dng file, and I'll check whether Leica includes the LCA and distortion correction fields. Edited April 9, 2018 by scott kirkpatrick
scott kirkpatrick Posted April 9, 2018 Share #4  Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) I checked one example, found the correction block (WarpRectangular), and it is set to the no correction values -- no distorition at all!  So any error messages that you are receiving from photoshop or LightRoom are Adobe's quibbles, not Leica's. I'll see what Capture One lets me do, but I expect that it will not volunteer any distortion corrections since there are none to start with.   Capture One recognizes the new 90 SL APO Summicron and has a profile for it. But the results look just the same as with the "manufacturer's profile." It also sees that no distortion corrections are required. lx1713 Posted April 9, 2018 Share #5 Â Posted April 9, 2018 Thanks, Scott! I wonder if the 16-35 might match such an achievement. Probably impossible.
scott kirkpatrick Posted July 11, 2018 Share #6  Posted July 11, 2018 It's a bit late for an answer to your question, and I think I have commented on this elsewhere. The 16-35 does have significant distortion correction, which you see when cropping things in Capture One. It draws in quite a bit of extra area at 16 mm, less at 18-21, not enough to matter for longer focal lengths. I have often pushed out the boundaries (to more than 24 MPx, in effect) without being concerned about the sharpness of the material in the corners. An interesting detail is that there seems to be very little difference between the corrections for each of the three color planes, which means that chromatic aberrations have been taken care of optically.
