Hello everyone,

I realized that my lux 35 Asph presents a problem attributable to the separation of the two front elements. Can anyone tell me what could be more or less the repair done by Leica?

Thank you

G.

I just wonder: How old is your lens?

the lens is from 2012;

it seems, (I am not sure) that the detachment can be between the first and second front lenses;

thank you

This should not happen after such short time. I feel sorry for you. As a goodwill gesture they should fix that at no cost.

Well, these are then 18 years. I wonder if this is a lot for a Leica lens or not.

Could we not read in another thread here that when 2 lenses start to separate then it is extremely difficult to take them fully apart as it is the glue that is not right any more. That is what I remember. And therefor it could be a serious problem even though you might not see anything on your photographs.

However I can only speculate. Leica will have to tell you what its all about and what can be done at what price.

in fact 16 years (but it does not matter); in fact on the photos not known problems;

I will ask Leica what he asks for the repair.
I was hoping someone could experience it, say a cost.

If the two cemented elements of the front doublet are showing signs of separation then, given its a 'relatively recent' lens, the cement used will probably be a UV cured adhesive of some description and I doubt that it can actually be taken apart and re-cemented. So it will need a replacement doublet fitted which I would think that Leica should be able to do. However you need to figure out why there is separation - impact damage is most likely I would suggest.

Cost could be quite high - a simple front element is several hundred Euros and a doublet may be higher.

We had this other thread with exactly your problem: Separation of 2 elements. In that thread it was considered a serious problem. pgk described it very well. Thats exactly what I remembered from the other thread.

Still, and you wrote it, you can see nothing on your photographs. But if ever you try to sell that lens it might become difficult.

I would send this photo to Leica and ask them what they think. They would probably say send it in but as least you would get an idea of what can be done.

hi Bill, could you tell me who to send the photo to?

hi Bill, could you tell me who to send the photo to?

Since you are in Italy, I would contact Leica directly in Germany. There may be a better email address than this but it should get you started. Good luck and hope you get it fixed.
