mikbau Posted March 26, 2018 Share #1  Posted March 26, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) All I have some dust/some kind of mark showing up in the viewfinder...it's towards the top left corner. It doesn't appear that it's on the sensor itself, as I can't seem to find it in any images (even took a shot w/o the lens against a white surface). It's not on the lens.  It doesn't appear to be on the inside of the EVF glass (nor on the outside) - so exactly what surface might it be on? And is it clean-able?  Forgive me, coming from the SLR world, it was either on the prisim, the sensor, or the lens.  Michael
Advertisement Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Hi mikbau, Take a look here Dust on....viewfinder?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted March 26, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted March 26, 2018 I would shoot a bright surface at f/22 or f/16 and see what happens. If there is some dust or dirt on your sensor, as i suspect it, you will see it this way.
mikbau Posted March 26, 2018 Author Share #3  Posted March 26, 2018 Thanks....you're probably right. I realized that I had been shooting fairly wide open recently, which is why I probably didn't see it.  It looks more like a smudge than dust - not sure where it would have come from - I tried a blower and it didn't get rid of it. I saw a thread on cleaning the CL sensor, but I can't recall if anyone had a preferred cleaning kit. Worst case there is a place in Seattle that specializes in cleaning them  ~m  I would shoot a bright surface at f/22 or f/16 and see what happens. mikbau Posted March 26, 2018 Author Share #4  Posted March 26, 2018 I tried against a bright surface at f16 - I am not seeing the spot on the image  What's odd is, I can distinctly bring it in or out of focus in the viewfinder using the diopter adjuster. I have a cleaning kit on the way, but I may swing it by the Leica store or CameraTechs to have them take a look at it. If it's on the sensor, it's easy enough to clean - if not, I'm not sure what the next step would be. I suspect sending it in to have it looked it

mikbau Posted March 30, 2018 Author Share #6  Posted March 30, 2018 I cleaned the sensor tonight. Took a dry pass, then a wet pass with Eclipse cleaner. The spot is still there.  Question - I assume the local Leica stores don't have facilities for repair? If not, what's an average turn around these days? I assume they will have to disassemble the viewfinder to clean it. Part of me says to not worry about it as it's small and isn't affecting the images. The other part of me says it was $2700 and it shouldn't have this.
