Is here any way to report this to authorities? This must be stopped A.S.A.P.

The authorities are well aware of this. There are many interceptions and arrests at main airports. In the USA the fine is 10.000 $ or 5000 $ if the offender is genuinely unaware. In a country like Kenia you will be in jail ( a place you don't want to be, if you are lucky you can buy your way into a first-class pig-sty, with only ten persons sharing a toilet bucket)  whilst your case is sorted -slowly.

It is not just Elephants. For instance, if you buy a pretty sea shell as a souvenir on holiday, chances are that it has been illegally harvested from a coral reef, adding to the destruction. If you get caught at the airport, you're (justly) in trouble. Using an Elephant leather  bag indicates a lack of moral compass and is essentially the same as owning a dagger with a Rhino horn handle or ingesting ground-up Tiger genitals in attempt to please your wife.

I don't blame the third-world locals trying to make a living by selling whatever they can get their hands on to feed their children. I blame the middlemen and mostly the buyers from the first  and second world.

His video says that exotic camera straps are coming next.

Disgusting.

Jeff

He also mentions that the zip works as it should, so he should be congratulated on that exceptional feat.

But who the hell has a "spare passport"!?

In addition to indicating a lack of moral compass, it also reveals a monumental level of self-entitled arrogance - particularly on the part of the first and second world end users.

Those who think in such terms are vile, loathsome excuses for human beings in my book.

Used to like Thorstens work, until a justification of the material choices for the bags will be presented, I will put him in the freezer...

Promoting the sale of elephant skin bags should put that insensitive SOB behind bars for life.

Who’s Adam?

Adam is the "workshop manager", who assists Thorsten.

Perhaps a few strongly-worded notes to Adam might make a difference. I don't believe I've ever seen a more grotesque bag than those blue croc bags. The whole concept is disturbing, and on top of that, they look like the Queen Mother's purse, circa 1967.

Just plain thoughtless, and inexcusable from someone who travels to 25 countries a year. I’ve gone lukewarm over von Overgaard over the last few years , but this is the nail in the coffin for me. Thorsten was very helpful to me when I first considered buying into Leica, and I appreciate that, but his personal values and choices no longer match with mine.

Facts? These are facts. Maybe I didn’t make myself clear (for which I apologise).

Thorsten was very friendly and helpful, but over the years a number of things about him started to put me off. These are my issues, not his. Using elephant skin for those ugle bags are a step too far for me, so I no longer subscribe to his emails or read his blog or visit his website. This is my choice.

If you wish to fact check my post, it’s all on his website. I have no need to go looking.

Cheers

John

What I mean is that love life, religion, political conviction etc belongs to somebody’s privacy. Neither you, nor me, have the right to dispute that.

Using elephant skin is a different discussion.
