Ugh, apologies for quoting myself but I mis-typed while distracted by something else.  What I had meant to write was:

"Not all Leica lenses have brass helicoids and often those with brass barrels have an aluminium helicoid to minimise weight".

Re: aluminum helicoid. I seem to have only one lens like that, the Rokkor 40/2 for Minolta CLE. I'm pretty sure there are other examples but i can't seem to recall them.
