Considering switching from neck strap to wrist strap

I have a couple of leather straps, neck and wrist straps from the guys at 595strapco. If I'm out for a full day, I tend to have my Billingham bag with me so normally just use a wrist strap but if I'm out for a walk around for an hour or so I use a neck strap long enough to go cross body to keep the camera out of the way until I need it.

Does anybody here use a wrist strap with their M10, and what benefits does it offer over a neck strap?  Do you feel the camera is still secure if you were to accidently let go of it?

I've yet to find a neck strap that doesn't look like it will not mark the camera body and is long enough for my not so tall but taller than average height so I always read these neck strap threads to see what people are using with their M10's.

FWIW, I have always used a cheap wrist strap with the M10. A wrist strap and the M10 grip together feels like a very secure hold to me. I also carry the small PeakDesign 5L bag so I can stow the camera if needed. I bought a cheap wrist strap with the intention of buying something nicer at some point, but its doing its job so far without marking the camera whatsoever. But I still look !

I can never decide what I want to use, but I know I love Artian & Artist. ☺️

I change back and forth all the time...

After a few misteps, I arrived at the following  - the Oberwerth hand strap is soft, wide leather which is easy on the wrist and, to hold the camera when not in use, the leather ONA Bond Street bag has a broad shoulder strap and is quite comfortable (looks a little like a small briefcase). Also, the Leica hand grip makes it easier to pull the camera out on short notice.

+1 on the wrist strap, though in my case I have the RRS grip as well.  When you're carrying two cameras, which I do consistently, neck straps are very risky when you grab a camera from the bag. The only time I regret not having a neck strap, is when I'm shooting fast paced at an event and want to switch cameras. Under those conditions, it's nice to have one on the neck and one in the hand or bag.

Hello. Have you noticed any markings, rub marks, scuffs on the camera body from the Oberwerth hand strap?

When travelling I use a bag that is hard/slow to open because of theft concerns, particularly in a crowd. Consequently, the camera is out of the bag most of the time and, because I don't want to have one hand occupied all the time, I prefer a neck strap, usually a reinforced one. In some other use cases a wrist strap is more convenient.

I finally found a very inexpensive premium leather wrist strap for my M10. It's a corded or loop design strap so no fear of marking the camera whatsoever. Interestingly the manufacturer is an over 160 year old company that used to supply Leitz in Wetzlar, Germany with goatskins to cover their Leica Cameras back in the 1930's. Currently 50% discount for anyone interested ( Note* I don't have any affiliation with this brand/company) I just like it for my M10 for its simplicity, quality and strength.

For decades I've used all sorts of wrist straps (unless there's a reason to use two bodies at the same time when I use separate neck straps bandolier-style).  I've eventually settled on the Annie Barton Linky wrist strap because the leather links lie very well and help it to follow the contours of my wrist and hand as it moves so it is smooth and comfortable to wear.  I normally hold the camera in my hand while walking so the wrist strap is there to catch the camera in the event that it might fall but I'm fine with dropping the camera so the Linky takes the weight when I need my right hand free.

After trying them for a while I'm not keen on wrist straps that can be tightened like the Peak Design and the Mr Zhou because I found that I was often tinkering with them, tightening them or loosening them as some part of my mind told me it should be tighter to stop the camera slipping off my wrist etc, and putting the camera down for a moment meant fully loosening it off to get my hand through the loop and then retightening after putting it back.  Too much faffing about and the Linky removed all that for me.

Pete.

I use a wrist strap especially when I go out with one body in my hip bag from pacsafe, very safe as such. It gets less safe with changing lenses especially when I have two bodies with me in a Billingham and need to change lenses from body to body. So I ended up thus far with two 98cm Art and Artisan silk neck straps. They are nice as neckstraps but I use them very often as wrist straps and when I have to change lenses I can go safe and easy by using it as a neck strap. These straps are also quite small when swirled around the camera. That’s what I hate about most neckstraps, the hassle in your bag, they ask so much attention every time. Or they hang out your bag before you know it, this doesn’t happen so easy with the silk straps. Very friendly material too.

Like a few others earlier, I use Artisan & Artist, but an ACAM102

http://www.artisan-n-artist.com/product_list.php?nid=4

This makes a secure wrist strap when looped around the wrist but can be used as intended, around the neck.

the ACAM102 with its adjustable length has too much strap and is not so comfortable for me, wrapped around wrist.

I carry my camera in my left hand, using a large-size 'Gordy's' wrist strap attached to the left side of the M10 body. This leaves my right hand free to open doors etc, but the camera is always ready to go. I also wear a very small camera bag on a shoulder strap, just big enough for the Leica with a 28 or 35mm lens, so the camera can easily be put away when needed.
