Good idea. IMHO the late-series  cheesegrater Macs are the best Apples ever made, and fully upgradable.

My 2009 machine will soon get yet another upgrade... should be good for another 5 years or so.

It's always good to check the Mac Rumors Buyer's Guide: https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac

You'll see what's been released lately, what's rumored to be released soon, etc. Apple has promised a new Mac Pro "soon," likely to be announced at WWDC in June. The regular iMac is long overdue for an upgrade, and the iMac Pro is probably due for an upgrade within the next year. The Mac Mini just got upgraded, if it looks like it will suit your needs. My work computer started coughing up a lung, so they bought me a new iMac (and it's really nice!), even though I knew it's overdue for an upgrade, but that's not my money. I'll upgrade my 2009 iMac if Apple releases a new one in the next few months. It is getting a bit tough to work with a large LR catalog and with large format scans.
