scott kirkpatrick Posted February 13, 2018 Share #21  Posted February 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) You will find lot of pictures in this thread, with comments. And you can scan facebook or Flickr for many more. Technically (the MTFs in the leica tech data documents) it is the most capable lens that the CL offers. Many of the garden shots in my album at https://www.flickr.com/gp/133969392@N05/B822E1 are taken with the 60 CL macro, and you can see how they compare with others taken with the ultimate combination, SL [601] with the S 120 macro.

scott kirkpatrick Posted February 16, 2018 Share #22  Posted February 16, 2018 Here's a shot, taken at f/2.8, to show how the out of focus areas develop before and after the plane of focus. Friday night, big supermarket in Tel Aviv:  C1010862 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr ISO 320  And another with gradual bokeh, an apricot tree:  C1010856 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr ISO 400@f/5.6
Jacek.PL Posted February 16, 2018 Share #23 Â Posted February 16, 2018 Scott , nice shots. Whether autofocus macro 60 is fast and accurate on CL ? I wonder whether to buy it as a portrait lens .
scott kirkpatrick Posted February 17, 2018 Share #24  Posted February 17, 2018 In good light it is fast, and the spot focus setting is very accurate. In weak light with contours to focus on, it merely slows up some. In weak light, with soft contours and no lines to focus on, it will struggle. Since that describes my own performance with manual lenses, and the CL's AF is much faster than me with the M10, I'm quite pleased with the APO 60. Using it, I often hunt around in a deep scene for the best point of focus, and this is a powerful tool. It handles backgrounds gracefully. But there are many approaches to portraits -- that's up to you to decide.
scott kirkpatrick Posted February 20, 2018 Share #25  Posted February 20, 2018 More on what the TL 60 can and cannot do with its AF:  C1010886 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr  Using spot AF, I couldn't get it to focus on the clouds in the sky, or the HIF, but it focussed instantly on the stadium light or on the buildings, which were the right distance away.
jaapv Posted February 20, 2018 Share #26 Â Posted February 20, 2018 Well, yes, but to be fair, there is nothing to focus on in the sky, except the helicopter, and you could have used tracking focus on it.
scott kirkpatrick Posted February 20, 2018 Share #27  Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The HIF would have flown away before I got the focus mode reset, and the buildings were right there.  We get nice flybys of everything from flocks of helicopters to tankers suckling F35s to aerobatic teams trailing smoke on our Independence Day in a few months. I'll have to try with the 90-280 then. Or maybe 55-135 on the CL and 90-280 on the SL. Alistairm Posted February 20, 2018 Share #28  Posted February 20, 2018 It focuses very well on the CL and is very sharp and well corrected wth lovely colour rendition. In use, it is a delight to have a 1:1 macro that also focuses to infinity.  I have shot a great deal of macro over a long time and don’t think I’ve used a better macro lens than this, which includes the Leica S120 and the Nikkor 200 Micro. In fact, I have sold me S 120 as, despite the optical quality thefocus throw om that lens is very long and it is only a 1:2 mag ratio,  I doubt it would be my first choice as a portrait lens but if you enjoy close up photography it is a crackingly good lens that is very easy to handhold.  My only real gripe is that I don’t find any of the fly by wire lenses great to focus compared to a proper manual clutch, but at real macro range you’re normally leaning in and out rather than using the focus ring anyway. onasj Posted May 17, 2018 Share #34 Â Posted May 17, 2018 Just put a new 60/2.8 TL through the paces and ended up purchasing the lens for my CL. Â It is sharp, has nice bokeh, and AF worked very well in my hands. Â It's about the same diameter but 1 cm longer (without the hood) than the 35/1.4-TL (without the hood).
