Csacwp Posted February 2, 2018 Author Share #22 Â Posted February 2, 2018 So,how does the last version of the 50mm Summilux pre-asph compare at f/2 to the v5 50mm Summicron? Â
lct Posted February 3, 2018 Share #23  Posted February 3, 2018 So,how does the last version of the 50mm Summilux pre-asph compare at f/2 to the v5 50mm Summicron?   At f/2, i find the Summilux 50/1.4 v3 at least as sharp as the Summicron 50/2 v5 in the centre of the frame but it is significantly softer elsewhere and this is true at f/2 and around f/2.8 as well. The Summilux 50/1.4 asph is sharper there and has less CA than v3 but it is less forgiving than the latter. If you're after lenses being altogether soft at fast apertures and sharp elsewhere, somewhat like the Summilux 75/1.4, you may wish to try my favorite ZM Sonnar 50/1.5 on mirrorless cameras preferably as it suffers from focus shift on rangefinders.
Csacwp Posted February 3, 2018 Author Share #24  Posted February 3, 2018 Hmm, then I think the Summicron v5 is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m quite pleased with the results I got today when trying it.

Csacwp Posted February 3, 2018 Author Share #26  Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) Neither was my 50 Apo... in fact, it flared quite often, and it was from a later “flare-free” batch. Sometimes this ruined shots, but other times I found the flare to add a certain something to portraits.  It’s amazing how much I prefer the rendering of v5 to the Apo. It’s a beautiful lens.
