Anika Posted January 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to know if somebody who has bought the (expensive) Summilux 28mm for the M had any second thoughts? Is it a lens to keep forever and why, or just something you get because of GAS and then sell it with lost because of..... yes.... why?

SiggiGun Posted January 7, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2018 Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalkthanks for your Post and question. I’m currently in process to buy a 28mm lens. I love my 35 Lux. So I don’t think to “need” a 1.4 for 28 but.... Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk
apertur Posted January 7, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 7, 2018 It is too big. If that‘s no concern for you it is great. If you have a 35 or 50 SLX than I think a 28 2.0 is the better choice.
onasj Posted January 7, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2018 In my opinion it is the best of the wide-angle luxes, at a very versatile focal length. I had the 21 lux but found it to be too bulky and too wide to take advantage of the wide aperture (i.e., subject isolation from depth of field at 21 mm is inherently difficult). I found the 24 lux to be less sharp and didn’t like its character as much as the 28 lux. The 28 lux would be in my bag for general use if I take three lenses (28 lux, 50 apo, 90 apo ) or two lenses (28 lux and 50 apo). 4
TheGodParticle/Hari Posted January 7, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2018 It is unfortunately my least used Summilux. I travel with a 21-35-75 kit or a 24-50-90 kit. Somehow the 28mm’s usually get left behind. I force myself to use the 28mm’s but again the v1 summicron asphs comes out and the 28 Summilux gets left behind. I try to love this lens but somehow I just don’t seem to bond with it. The lens performs very well for shots around the house ... maybe someday ... Sorry, not the most useful reply, but this is my reality. 3
Wonzo Posted January 7, 2018 Share #7 Posted January 7, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) It`s a very sharp lens, fits quite well to the M10, but on the negative side there is CA, which is considerable. Therefore I refrained from buying it.
lik Posted January 7, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 7, 2018 The 28 lux would be in my bag for general use if I take three lenses (28 lux, 50 apo, 90 apo ) or two lenses (28 lux and 50 apo). Exactly! To me it's even not too bulky. I still have also the Lux 21 but I use by far more the Lux 28. Wide angle with bokeh and stopped down perfect sharpness.

mdg1371 Posted January 7, 2018 Share #10 Posted January 7, 2018 No regrets, in fact, I think it will bump my 35 FLE out of rotation.
Anika Posted January 7, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted January 7, 2018 No regrets, in fact, I think it will bump my 35 FLE out of rotation. is 28 Lux that good?...
harmen Posted January 8, 2018 Share #12 Posted January 8, 2018 Also perfectly happy. Of course there are things you may care more or less about. Viewfinder is somewhat blocked, but not an issue to me. The size and weight are fine, whereas I consider the 90 apo a bit of a pain (though worth it). It tips the camera less than the 50 lux, when on a flat surface, since it’s wider. The lens is marvelous because it separates foreground and background both through perspective and letting the background flow into a recognizable blur. The colors are wonderful. I’m not a fan of 35mm, so there is no lens to compare the 28lux with.
Donzo98 Posted January 8, 2018 Share #13 Posted January 8, 2018 Leica thought it was a pretty good focal length too... they put a 28 1.7 into the Q. I love my Q... and use it every day.
Bill Clark Posted January 8, 2018 Share #14 Posted January 8, 2018 I bought a used 28 Elmarit and like it because of size and it was a great value. LeicaR10 Posted January 8, 2018 Share #15 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) Anika, The 28mm Summilux is superb. It draws unlike any other 28mm. (If you want a good read, I suggest you read articles at: www.StreetSilhouette.com about the lens) Yes, it is a tad heavy, but nothing compares to the way it renders. Then again, each Leica lens is designed to draw differently. They all have pros and cons. It depends on your genre of photography and use. It is a classic lens that draws so well with the MM, M10 and SL. I use it extensively for landscape, street and Australian life photography. For me, the slight weight is of no concern to me. The bottom line for me, is always the photograph and way it makes one stop, look, think and feel...not the lens. r/ Mark Edited January 8, 2018 by LeicaR10
Bill Clark Posted January 8, 2018 Share #16 Posted January 8, 2018 I gave you incorrect link for the lens I own. Here is the correct link: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/28mm_f/2.8_Elmarit-M_III Mine was manufactured in 1983. enboe Posted January 8, 2018 Share #17 Posted January 8, 2018 No regrets, the f/1.4 makes it stand out. The weight makes me add the grip to the M10, which then gives a very balanced and capable one-lens kit. Perish the thought, but if I had to downsize to one 28mm, it would be the Summilux. fabior Posted January 8, 2018 Share #18 Posted January 8, 2018 I am going to buy a 28 lux too ! .. after I have seen how usable a 28mm focal is. Till now I have used a new 28mm summaron and I like it very very much for it's size and rendering . Mostly used with an MM but even with an M9P . More difficult to use with SL as focusing is not so easy as with a RF camera ( it looks ever in focus with the SL !!) So I think lux 28 would be a good companion and complement but not a substitute, of the summaron. I hope to have soon the 28lux and give you my opinion ! Anika Posted January 9, 2018 Author Share #19 Posted January 9, 2018 I hope to have soon the 28lux and give you my opinion ! cant wait to read it - 50 Lux and 28 Lux could be the dream team for the M10
mdg1371 Posted January 9, 2018 Share #20 Posted January 9, 2018 is 28 Lux that good?... It is. 28mm at f1.4 allows for a surprisingly different feel compared to 35mm at f1.4. I would describe it as allowing you to “float” a subject in a space with a greater sense of depth than with 35mm. Additionally, the 28mm does not have the mid-zone dip that is present in the 35mm.
