pico Posted December 31, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) How much more in the viewfinder? Leica's literature used to provide excellent viewfinder comparisons. Are there comparisons of the M10 viewfinder to earlier Leicas? Eye-relief is most important to me. I am reluctant to drive 240 miles just to handle one in-person. . Edited December 31, 2017 by pico
Advertisement Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Hi pico, Take a look here How much more in the viewfinder?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted December 31, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2017 Pico, I don't know viewfinder comparisons, but some numbers that you can find in "Leica M-System" Catalog or download from Leica Camera website. At page 20, M10 "... viewfinder has been enlarged by 30%, and the magnification factor has been increased to 0.73x. Eye relief ... 50% increase ..." Those numbers are comparisons from previous model M, I think. In use, the M10's finder is the best I've found on any M (almost as good as M-A but in dim lighting the frame lines are more visible on M10)
pico Posted December 31, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) a.noctilux, I have coped with difficult vision all my life, and thinking again today of how very much I spend on perceptual assistance: glasses (four pair to get by), (and horror - hearing aids), an M10 seems rational. It will be my last small camera. I am close to the plunge. Thank you for your input. Sometimes I realize my head is sensory impaired, then I think. a.noctilux Posted December 31, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 31, 2017 If you can look in the M10 finder or manipulate that thin body (as long time M user I forgot for a while how the thin M analog body is so nice). Every thing is "better thought out" than the previous model. Only the LCD at back bother me a bit, but for that I have M-D .
lucerne Posted December 31, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) Pico If - by -chance you use a supplementary diopter in your existing M viewfinder, then I can advise you that there is an adaptor available to re-use what you already own. If you don't need adjustment then Eye relief and increased magnification are specific features of the M10 . Much easier to focus. Yah, she knows I'm a nut. LCD? I use two M9s and only use the LCD for menu settings, and that is rare. Oi. I'm like prehistoric.
a.noctilux Posted December 31, 2017 Share #7 Posted December 31, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) At first I didn't understand 50% more eye relief, I have bought the "Thread adapter 24001" to use my x1.25 or x1.4 loupes. I used those with Noctilux 1.0 or Summilux 75mm with previous M. After trying magnifier on M10, I must admit that this nice finder is better without (for me), and more comfortable. Pico, just try M10 with your glasses to see better or not.
TomB_tx Posted January 1, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 1, 2018 I've had my M10 for a few weeks, and bought it for the improved viewfinder as I found I could focus my M4 & M6 easier than my M9, and also for the ISO capability. The finder difference on the M10 is not dramatic, but I find it quite effective. I can nail focus much better and easier than on the M9, although both seem to be adjusted as accurately. I've worn glasses full time for 60 years, and can see the M10 finder better. I don't think it is quite up to the finder of my Zeiss Icon ZM, but it is a clear improvement. The M10 is a pleasure to use, and feels just right with my 50 & 35 Summarit 2.5 lenses, which are now all I need for available light work with the M10's high ISO. Rob L Posted January 1, 2018 Share #9 Posted January 1, 2018 I find the difference in eye relief to be very subtle. I Had my M-D briefly along side my M10. The 28 frame lines are just ever so slightly easier to see with the M10. Initially I did not feel the increased magnification was a big deal either until I used my M10 for a while and switched back to the .68 finder and the difference going down felt huge!
