ibogost Posted July 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone offer an opinion on a fair price to look for for a 50 Summilux, used in excellent condition. I'm curious about the differences between the current asph version and the previous non-asph as well.

ibogost Posted July 2, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 2, 2007 Thanks. I'm actually not looking for a dealer/vendor, but rather an opinion on current going rates.
Joop van Heijgen Posted July 2, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 2, 2007 Thanks. I'm actually not looking for a dealer/vendor, but rather an opinion on current going rates. In fact the 2.0/50 summicron for R en M cameras is the best lens ever made bij Leica (Leitz). This is the opinion of the Leica constructors themselves! This lens is no too expensive regarding its optical performance! Prices: M € €260 to € 750,- R € €170 to €200,- The Summilux is much more expensive; I should buy it only when you need the F 1.4 On all the other apertures the Summilux is not a better lens than the Summicron! abrewer Posted July 3, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2007 Can anyone offer an opinion on a fair price to look for for a 50 Summilux, used in excellent condition. I'm curious about the differences between the current asph version and the previous non-asph as well. Ahhhh...what great memories I have of our discussions of this topic in the past. Where's LCT??? There's not a whole lot of difference between the two; but there's enough difference that most experienced users can tell the difference in color and sharpness (a little more oomph and cutting with the ASPH) and the bokeh (a little harsher with the ASPH). Prices on the non-ASPH should start around 999 and up to 1800 maybe for LNIB; although I understand the M8 users may be pushing this lens' value further northward just as they have the wider lenses. Used on the ASPH will be in excess of 2100, if you can find someone willing to part with theirs. I know mine won't be leaving my hands anytime soon. Thanks. lct Posted July 3, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Agree with the mod of course! Just kidding Allan. I'm lucky enough to use both lenses with my R-D1 and R-D1s bodies. As far as sharpness the asph is simply unbeatable at f/ 1.4. And its OOF rendition is not harsh then, just a bit more 'grainy' than the pre-asph that's all. At slower apertures i prefer the pre-asph for its rare blend of reasonable sharpness and smooth bokeh. Makes a great combo with the 35/2 IV if you see whan i mean. To me at least it is ideal for portrait. Also it is a bit less contrasty which makes it easier to manage highlights in digital. But again at f/ 1.4 the asph is outstanding. Also i prefer the latter for lanscapes where high contrast and sharpness are requested. Happy snaps! luigi bertolotti Posted July 3, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 3, 2007 This is a good source for having an idea on the current values of Leica lenses Leica M Lens Price Guide Of course, the buy/sell is another story; "The value of an item depends exclusively by the mood of the seller and the buyer at a certain moment" : Mc Keown law with its two appendices a) AnytimeYou finally buy a rare item you have searched for years, You shall find the same item few days later at a lower price Anytime you pass by buying an item for it costs too much, You shall not find it for years, and when found, price will be higher. This deosn't apply to Summiluxes...unless one searches for a LTM version... it's not difficult to find one..
