Did Leica create special packaging for this combo, or does the dealer sell you one box containing the CL body and another box containing the lens at a special price?

I like keeping all the original packaging for re-saleability, so I want to make sure I get the right box(es).

AndreasB, Alistarim and microview, thank you! Apparently, the Vario kits are not yet available in the US, so some dealers are combining the body and lens in two boxes. Same equipment, just different packaging. I'll wait for the official single-box kit, as I'm in no rush.

I received my Leica CL 18-56 Vario kit last week, and I've been enjoying it ever since. But I have another packaging-related question. Under the top flap of the black box, there is a built-in envelope, but mine was empty. What, if anything, is supposed to be in there?

All the paperwork and accessories were in the drawers, so it's a mystery to me.

Good Lord! What are you going to do with that box? Display it on your mantelpiece as a trophy? Normally they get slung into a corner in the attic should one decide to sell the stuff at some point.

Right.  As long as the box adds $100 or more to the resale value of the Leica product, attics will suffer.  Or for apartment dwellers like me, bookshelves will develop an irregular silvery boxerie on their unreachable tops.  Although for lenses, which one should never sell, it's a bit hard to justify.

Yes, but nobody will care whether one has two separate boxes or the kit box. I fact, the kit box could be a disadvantage should one decide to upgrade to the CL2 without selling the lens. ;)

I agree - I would rather not have a kit box - I'd have to sell the lot all in one go.

And boxes are worth looking after - I sold one for a Apo-Summicron-M 90 on ebay for a good price a short while ago - it had somehow got separated from its mother.
