seascape Posted December 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did Leica create special packaging for this combo, or does the dealer sell you one box containing the CL body and another box containing the lens at a special price? I like keeping all the original packaging for re-saleability, so I want to make sure I get the right box(es).
Advertisement Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Hi seascape, Take a look here Leica CL & 18-56mm Lens Kit Packaging. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AndreasB Posted December 9, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 9, 2017 for CL and 18/2.8 there is a special bigger box. Lens and camera are placed on the same level side by side in the top box. Think that it would be the same with 18-56 lens

Alistairm Posted December 9, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 9, 2017 My dealer didn't have the "kit" in stock so sold me the lens and camera separately boxed for the kit price.

seascape Posted December 9, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) AndreasB, Alistarim and microview, thank you! Apparently, the Vario kits are not yet available in the US, so some dealers are combining the body and lens in two boxes. Same equipment, just different packaging. I'll wait for the official single-box kit, as I'm in no rush. Edited December 9, 2017 by seascape
seascape Posted January 13, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted January 13, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received my Leica CL 18-56 Vario kit last week, and I've been enjoying it ever since. But I have another packaging-related question. Under the top flap of the black box, there is a built-in envelope, but mine was empty. What, if anything, is supposed to be in there? All the paperwork and accessories were in the drawers, so it's a mystery to me.
jaapv Posted January 13, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2018 Nothing. It is always empty. You are supposed to keep little "I love you, my cuddly CL" notes in there.

Normally they get slung into a corner in the attic should one decide to sell the stuff at some point.
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 13, 2018 Share #10 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) Right. As long as the box adds $100 or more to the resale value of the Leica product, attics will suffer. Or for apartment dwellers like me, bookshelves will develop an irregular silvery boxerie on their unreachable tops. Although for lenses, which one should never sell, it's a bit hard to justify. jaapv Posted January 13, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 13, 2018 Yes, but nobody will care whether one has two separate boxes or the kit box. I fact, the kit box could be a disadvantage should one decide to upgrade to the CL2 without selling the lens.
LocalHero1953 Posted January 13, 2018 Share #12 Posted January 13, 2018 I agree - I would rather not have a kit box - I'd have to sell the lot all in one go. And boxes are worth looking after - I sold one for a Apo-Summicron-M 90 on ebay for a good price a short while ago - it had somehow got separated from its mother. LocalHero1953 Posted January 13, 2018 Share #13 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) I expect there's also a good market for the outer plain brown boxes that hold the glossy box as well. Edited January 13, 2018 by LocalHero1953
