wattsy Posted May 10, 2018 Share #646 Posted May 10, 2018 (edited) Smooth bokeh at F5.6 or thereabouts. (With Macro Adaptor-M). Edited May 10, 2018 by wattsy
Michael Hiles Posted May 10, 2018 Share #647 Posted May 10, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The smooth bokeh is very interesting and attractive. The flower is sharp enough and the OOF background is nicely indistinct. Beautifully suited to this type of picture. Better here than in portraits, IMO. My personal preference in portraits is for sharp images.
ianman Posted May 11, 2018 Share #648 Posted May 11, 2018 These portraits are sharp (to me anyway, but I'm not chasing sharpness at all costs). I'm no expert by any means, but it seems to me that the resolving power of the lens is high enough. I guess what makes them seem unsharp is the low contrast at wide-ish aperture. 100% crop... LocalHero1953 Posted May 18, 2018 Share #649 Posted May 18, 2018 Ely Cathedral, looking suitably mediaeval today. Thambar, no filter, f2.2 ISO 1600, Leica SL The wrong sort of lens for Cathedral interiors, but hey, it was on the camera anyway. Welcome, dear visitor! wattsy Posted May 21, 2018 Share #650 Posted May 21, 2018 I'm using the lens mainly for flowers of late. Here's a couple of the famed military orchid (Orchis militaris) that show different characteristics. This is without the filter at F9, I think. The morning light was already quite harsh by the time it reached the flowers around 9am (they are located in a fairly tight glade) so the background is quite busy and looks like I've gone a bit overboard with the clarity slider (which I don't use). This is at around F5.6 and mounted on the goggled Macro Adaptor. It was also taken earlier when the light was more shady and flat (my preferred light for flowers of this intricacy). It was also before the sunlight had burned off the delicate coating of moisture on the petals and sepals. By the way, if you are interested in this orchid, I highly recommend reading Ted Lousley's account in his Wild Flowers of Chalk and Limestone of his rediscovery of it at this location near Marlow. Also Jocelyn Brooke's mini-masterpiece The Military Orchid is a delightful read.
wattsy Posted May 21, 2018 Share #651 Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) Monkey orchid (Orchis simia) on the famous orchid slope at Hartslock. Again, Thambar-M at around F5.6 on the Macro Adaptor (and focussed using live view). Edited May 21, 2018 by wattsy
