Hello,

I normally shoot the M10 with DNG only, but the CL I plan to use with family so I guess DNG with JPG will probably be easier.

After a couple of days of using it, I find the default images are bland or pale for the lack of better words.   Don't get me wrong the image quality is good, the sharpness from the 23mm is also very good.   But the default color just seems lacking.

I tried Vivid which just throws off the skin tone.   Any suggestion please.

Thank you.

Go to "Film Style" -> "Film Style Settings" and try the following for "Standard"

- Saturation : Medium high

- Sharpness : Medium high

"Vivid" can be useful for cloudy weather with saturation set to Medium low.

Of course, these are all personal preferences; YMMV.

I tried Vivid as your suggestion with medium low saturation and made contrast also to medium low and it’s looking good, thank you.

I am finding that the embedded profile for raw files is too 'hot'.  Thus, I am using jpegs mostly and the DNGs only when I can't get what I want white balance-wise in a jpeg.

I think the OOC jpegs, when exposure and white balance are set correctly, are hard to beat.  When using the jpeg standard film style, I prefer

Saturation at standard/regular

Sharpness at medium high

Contrast at low

Ideas welcome

What about changing the default camera profile to your taste? Nobody is forcing you to use the embedded one.

Thank you Andreas and Jaap for your replies.

First,’Andreas, I have found that in cloudy weather my film style settings plus adding 17 and 10 to clarity and vibrance respectively keeps the colors a tad more natural.

Second Andreas, having now played a bit more with the camera, I think setting the contrast to low

allows us to get the full benefit of the Leica CL’s excellent dynamic range,

Third Jaap, I don’t feel like I have enough expertise to create my own starting profile for the camera. I have tried to no avail.

Let’s have others chime in some more.

Best, Ed

Adobe has just today released its Leica CL profile and it is excellent.  It is accurate color-wise and eliminates the 'too hot' look with the embedded profile.  I can now stop shooting with the JPEG film styles.

Happy photographing and processing to all, Ed
