stuny Posted November 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had no idea that people harnessed the tide to use its power in a mill. This is in Portugal's Algarve region. Welcome, dear visitor! peterbengtson Posted November 30, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 30, 2017 The Bay of Fundy has tidal power generation. Also a pilot tidal power project was installed in the East River in New York City several years ago but I don't know if it is still in operation. Other tidal power project are in development around the world.
stuny Posted November 30, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted November 30, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peter - Thank you. It makes great sense at the Bay of Fundy since that venue has the world's largest tidal shift. If I recall, Derby in Western Australia has the second highest tidal shift, and when the tide changes, the rush of water is almost frightening. Of course if global warming causes the Antarctic ice shelf to melt, allowing the glaciers to move freely from land into the sea, sea levels will probably go up 3 or 4 meters, drowning those tidal power plants. pgk Posted December 1, 2017 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2017 Other tidal power project are in development around the world. Shetland off north Scotland is a development hotspot - plenty to google if interested.
