Michael Hiles Posted November 21, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 21, 2017 Interesting. These animals have an undeserved bad reputation. They are not cute, but they are very useful - they keep the savannah completely clean.
jaapv Posted November 21, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted November 21, 2017 Better hunters than Lions, it may well be that the feeding Lions one finds are scavenging on an Heyna kill. A very interesting social structure too, with matriarchal packs. I cannot find them unattractive, as some people do.
stuny Posted November 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 22, 2017 Very nice. Their cubs are exceptionally cute. The largest spotted hyena we've ever seen was in Okavango Delta. One came into camp and stole a steak from the barbecue grill. The camp manager chased it off. The next morning she found that the hyena had gone into her office and chewed most of her books, possibly in retaliation for being driven off. In the Kalahari we've seen brown hyenas. They resemble Disney wolves, looking fierce and ominous. They are beautiful.
