Modify direction of M6 shutter dial. Possible?

Hey all.

 

I have an M240 and M6. 

 

The only thing about the M6 is that the shutter dial is in reverse to most other leicas.

Is it possible to somehow modify it so its reversed?

I know the M6 TTL has the dial in reverse but i don't want the 0.85 window, because of consistency with my M240.

 

Any ideas?

I can't see how reversing it would be possible.

The M6 is actually like most Leica models (i.e. M1,2,3,4,5). The direction only changed on the new-fangled models where the finder exposure indicator arrows matched the lens aperture ring direction, but seemed opposite the original shutter dial. Since I've used the older models for 5 decades, it's the newer ones that seem backwards.

At least they didn't reverse the direction of the lens aperture and meter readout to get consistent!

Of course it's possible ... at a price—which will be prohibitive. It's waay cheaper to sell the M6 (or to throw it away) and buy an M6 TTL (with .72× finder) instead.

...yea if you are assuming the M6 TTL only has the .85 viewfinder then think again. 

 

I love how my TTL .72 matches up with my original monochrom in use.

POSSIBLY the difference between the M6 & M6ttl shutter speed dial is a simple "idler wheel" under the larger shutter speed dial. This would mean that IF a person could get an M6ttl top plate & an idler wheel & a new shutter speed dial & replace their M6 top plate & shutter speed dial with these: They could then have the larger, turning the way they want, shutter speed dial.

 

Maybe.

If the idler wheel is fitted to a pivot with the wheel on top, at the same level as the M6 dial: It might be possible.

 

That is why I suggested considering using an M6ttl top plate: Because I think that it is slightly higher than an M6 top plate.

 

Or maybe the M6ttl top plate is higher to fit the idler wheel underneath.

 

I think both work with the range/viewfinder at the same height above the shutter mechanism.

I have never heard of it but ask an reputable independent Leica repair specialist, they would probably know if it is possible.

Buying an M7? This is what I did.... I don't regret it :-)

The shutter speed dial of my M6 and my Nikon F2 rotate in the same direction. I like this because I tend to use the two cameras together.

 

The shutter speed dial of M10 rotates in the opposite direction as my Nikon F2 and my Leica M6. I do not like this because I want the shutter speed dials of all my cameras to rotate in the same direction.
