michaelwj Posted November 7, 2017 Share #21 Â Posted November 7, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) And then of course there is a possibility of getting a Zeiss 21/2.8 Distagon ZF (I guess it is better than Biogon) and using it with an adaptor, how about this? There is always this possibility, but then do you really save that much weight/size? You might as well just keep what you have. Do you really want to go down the "what lens could I adapt" rabbit hole?
Advertisement Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Hi michaelwj, Take a look here Biogon 21/2.8 vs CV 21/1.8 vs SEM/3.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted November 7, 2017 Share #22 Â Posted November 7, 2017 Nice lens this Godzillon... err Distagon. Hard to focus with the RF though.
fatihayoglu Posted November 7, 2017 Author Share #23 Â Posted November 7, 2017 I guess I will choose between ZM 21/2.8 vs Leica 21/2.8 pre-ASPH (E60). Any feedback about this? The reason why not CV21/1.8 is the hood is fixed and I use step up rings for my filters, why not CV21/4 is the slowness.
Ernstk Posted November 7, 2017 Share #24 Â Posted November 7, 2017 I have owned two copies of the CV/21/4 and the ZM 21/2.8. The Voigtlanders are wonderful for their size (if you find a good sample). The Zeiss is nice. I currently have an Elmarit 21/2.8 (the E60). A wonderful lens designed by Walter Mandler. I just enjoy the images it makes so much more than any of the other 21s I have owned. Â I use the Elmarit M 21/2.8. It's a great lens and not too expensive... Â Ernst

It's a great lens and not too expensive...  Ernst Is it pre Asph version, and are you using it on M10 as I have heard it causes fuzzy sides due to new sensor design of M10?  Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cbretteville Posted November 7, 2017 Share #26  Posted November 7, 2017 So would you chose LEICA 21 pre-ASPH E60 over ZM21/2.8? Could you give me an idea why? I prefer the images shot with the Elmarit. Personal taste. The Biogon is possibly a technically better lens. You’ll find old posts here where I praise it. Life goes on and I’m now at a stage where image rendering is more important than image perfection. Carl

Steve McGarrett Posted November 12, 2017 Share #28 Â Posted November 12, 2017 Nope. Â From a strictly technical point of view is hard to disagree that the ZM Biogon, a lens whose MTFs match the Elmarit Asph ones, is better than the old Mandler-era pre-aspherical Elmarit 21. No doubt there are other qualities in a lens other than that...

Martin B Posted November 14, 2017 Share #30  Posted November 14, 2017 CV 21/1.8 - happy user:  + very sharp corner to corner + aperture ring clicks into full and half aperture stops + very good lens build with big enough focusing ring (no tab needed) + best price/quality ratio in this FL of available M lenses + can be used with adapter on A7 series cameras (only very slight purple fringing on A7R wide open which can be easily corrected in PP. No issues at all at f/2.8 and slower) - fixed hood which does not allow to use a larger filter size than 58 mm diameter with step-up ring. Get a decent 58 mm polarizer which can be used with step-down ring on 39 mm lenses, too.  Try to find a used copy which you might get for less than $1K. I bought my lens new since I didn't find a used one for a lower price at the time when I was looking. Got mine for $1K three years ago.
